NSV: Jumping!
So, I'm finally back to working out after surgery--I started about 3-4 wks post-op, and then was felled by a nasty, nasty head cold. I have to say, I'm just now starting to feel "normal" when I work out. Last Saturday, I was able to do the entire kettlebell workout, including ab work, and it felt GREAT! Tonight, we went to TKD because our school is moving from the location it's been in for about 40 years, and tonight was the last night at the old school. It was a SUPER fun class, and I had one of my first real NSVs! We had to partner up and jump up and clap hands together moving down the entire length of the gym and back, and I can jump higher than I have been able to in many years!! It was awesome. And I haven't even lost that much weight (compared to most at 2 mos out), so I am so excited to see how things progress! I was also more agile--able to change directions more easily, and this isn't directly weight-related but more endurance and strength, but I picked up my partner, flung her over my shoulder and ran while carrying her the length of the gym and back, too. :D (Yes, I was supposed to!)
This just feels so good, because I've been stalled and up 1 lb for the last 1.5 weeks or so, and the panicked feelings of "What if I'm the one person this doesn't work for?" had started to creep in. I really think I am going to be/am a slow loser, which is kind of hard sometimes when I see other LWs dropping so much weight so quickly. However, as long as I keep seeing these NSVs, I think that is what matters. :)

And that is what this is all about, getting our lives back. Yeah, Gina may still have a bum back and I still have a bad knee and Lee may still be a slow loser but we are living life fully again. Gina is off to cruise, I am riding my pony, and Jody ran on the treadmill. We are winners and you are too.

Abby,
I am jumping for JOY for you.... only my jump is only 5 inches off the ground. And I can't even cart our 50 lb labradoodle the length of the kitchen.
So you rock, you kick artist, you.
You know what I say, right? Tighten the belt on that LW toga baby!
Oh.... wait.... for you, your toga's a do-bok and your belt is a dti, or something like that, right?
Hail to Abby, may she ever wear her do-bok.

LOL Tracey, you are so funny. I love your posts--I love your sense of humor! You know what? One of my goals is to wear the dobok the next size down! (and yes, you got them right, girl!) I already fit into the next size down top, it's the stubborn butt and legs that need to shed a few before I can get into the matching pants. :D

OK, when you get to the dobok size you want, thank your old dobok for clothing your old body so well, and then let it continue its helpful journey on someone who needs it. Some of your healthy qi will pass along with your dobok, as a kindness to the next person. The wheel turns.
Are you like me? I have these enormous glutes and hamstrings, and could press literally HUNDREDS of lbs. The downside is that I'm also FAT in those areas, so while I'll lose weight, I'm probably always gunna be extra muscular there. I'd love to be slender like Jody or Gina or Rebecca, but chances are I will have a wider butt than the average bear.
The upside to that is that when I whomp @ss, I'll have a whole lot more behind my kick.

I usually have a ridiculous sentimental value attached to my doboks for some reason. I still have my white belt uniform from 16-17 years ago! My hubby can wear the size I wear now, so he will likely be the benefactor of my old one. But I love the idea of thanking it. Maybe this time I will donate it to my school for when people forget their uniform, but I've had it altered, so we'll see. :)
Yes, I have a "ghetto onion" in the back and when I was 127lbs, I was told I have tree trunk legs. :D (By my old instructor--charming, right? Just what every 18 yr old girl wants to hear! We don't go there anymore.) And yes, I do have some serious muscle--hell, I was jumping and doing TKD with all the extra weight and I was no slouch! So yes, you will have much more whomp in your kicks forever. :D I, too, know I will never be a super skinny girl, even if I lose more than my goal, because when I was 123-130, I wasn't skinny. I still had "athletic" calves and had problems with my butt being big for jeans and boots were still hard to fit on my legs. Oh well. I rather like being athletic. :D

well, hold out SOME hope. My office mate had WLS, and her thighs and calves are smaller than they were when she was thin and had tree truck legs. This is a good question for my friend who has a master's degree in physiology and was an olympic coach. She said our bodies DO change for what they are needed for when we make clear our intention-- or something like that.
