Postop Day #5

Thanks for all the well-wishes and encouragement in the days leading to my VSG. I have to admit, it hasn't been as easy as I'd hoped. I had a cholecystectomy and hysterectomy in the past few years that were a breeze, so I was doing a lot of mental imaging that this would be an easier recovery. I try not to be a whiner, but I'm feeling a little whiney. I just have a chronic stomach ache and even liquids are a struggle because I just feel so full all the time. Yesterday a friend who is a nurse came by and gave me a liter of IV fluids. I felt better after that, but just not where I hoped to be. I'm sure it will get better every day, but I don't like being slowed down by anything. So anyway, thanks for letting me whine and I promise to post the better days, too.

Thanks. Maybe it's just early buyer's remorse and the tearfulness that goes with this type of surgery.

Trust me, you couldn't have been a bigger whiner than me!   I simply felt YUCK the entire first month.....nausea, sick tummy, food tasted horrible, head hunger, etc.  It didn't help that I was reading posts by people who "felt great" and were getting all their protein and liquids.  I DIDN't meet my protein and fluid goals until about 6 weeks into my surgery....but I did the best I could!

I remember thinking....Will I ever feel "good" again?  Will I ever enjoy food again?  Will the nausea EVER go away?  When will I have energy again?

Well, I did turn a corner about week 6-7 and by 8 weeks I was doing GREAT and had my life back....a NEW, FABULOUS life!!!

Whine away....we're here to listen!

Thanks. I think you're right. Hearing about every doing so great and me feeling like it's more of a struggle makes me feel like a wimp. But, I guess everyone is different. Appreciate the encouragement.

The first week or 2 can be rough.  It WILL get better.  Feel free to come here and whine anytime.  Wishing you a speedy recovery.   Cindy

Whine away! I was one who did feel good very quickly. To the point of maybe making this whole WLS thing look easy, BUT for me, I think I went through a lot of insecurity and actual depression for a few months building up to my surgery.... It might be why I felt better once surgery was performed (?).

My point being, we all deal with this immense stress on our bodies differently, and this forum is here to have a haven. And validation. We "get you" ((hugs)). I have no doubt once you heal a little more, you will be smiling the size of a room! Take Care.

Whine away, I still feel full ALL the time. I go from meal to meal and never feel hungry at all...my tummy is rumbly with liquid and is just yucky sometimes. I eat and then sit here going, "do I still have to get my vitamins/meds in?" So I wait a bit and take those...and it's time for the next meal somehow.

And people worry about being hungry????

Oh my gosh, do not worry about whining. I had a really rough couple of weeks at the beginning, too. The acid reflux was so bad, I lost my voice, and then I couldn't find meds to help, and it was just bad. I could only drink warm/hot or room temp liquids and it was a JOB for me, constantly taking teeny tiny baby sips all the time and treating my sleeve like a funnel. Plus, the not sleeping from the acid problems made me depressed, and I was feeling super defeated and had major buyer's remorse. You are not alone, and please whine all you need to! By the way, I'm so glad you have a nurse friend who can come give you fluids. *gentle hugs* Trust us, it will get better. :)

You know... this is just crazy.  Where you are is where I expected to be, and I cannot understand why I am not.  I've even been thinking that they just poked some holes and messed around in there and didn't do much of anything because, after all, I'm a lightweight and didn't have that much excess weight and should be able to lose it on my own.  :-P

Only the first few days did I experience a tightness when I was eating drinking... since then, I can slowly eat four ounces (of slider foods) before I need to stop for a break.  I've been sitting at 198 for 3 days now and figure there's no way I'll lose very much in the first year like others seem to be doing.  So I wonder again if they were just playing when they did surgery... until the unjury smoothie runs right through me, then I know they probably did do something... I just haven't decided what.    :-)

Once you heal up, I have a feeling you will be losing your excess in a jiffy.  Hang in there!!
