X Post OMG I Dump :(

Well, I found out I am one of the lucky 30%  I was hoping I would never have to find out.
Tonight I made my usual evening protein shake.  As some may know I have really been enjoying playing with my shakes.  I bought about 25 different sugar free syrups and I have been making a different treat every night.  Well, tonight praline cheesecake sounded good.  I even had a bottlel of cheesecake syrup that I hadn't tried yet.  So I made my shake.  And I started to feel sick.  Pretty quickly I was wishing I was dead.  I had the TV on and there was a scene with a guy being tied onto a gurney to get a lethal injection and I wanted to trade places with him.  I had hot flashes from hell.  My stomach felt terrible.  After about an hour, at least it felt like an hour, I was thinking why do I feel so sick.  I have a protein shake every night.  This feels like they say dumping feels like.  Am I going to dump on protein shakes now?
I wound up in the bathroom and after I threw up what was left in my stomach I had the dry heaves.  Finally my stomach settled down so I decided to check out the bottle of the cheesecake syrup.  Yup, it wasn't sugar free.  I don't know what I was thinking.  I am usually so careful when I buy the syrups.
I will tell you one thing.  I have heard people say that once you dump you will do anything to avoid that again.  I was even thinking, as I was suffering in misery, if this is dumping I never want to go through that again.  So now I know.  And you can bet your ass I will never willingly take another taste of sugar.
You know, when I was having the surgery one of the reasons I decided on it was because I am a sugar addict and I was hoping the fear of dumping would keep me away from it.  And it has for nearly 7 months.  But part of me thought that since I haven't had any food issues to this point that I probably wouldn't be one that dumped.  I guess I was wrong.
Another thing I was thinking about was that before my revision with my first surgery I had bad consequences from eating sugar and flour.  I would get terrible gas and bloating and diarrhea.  And it didn't keep me from eating it even though I knew I would suffer because of it.  I remember thinking that even if I dumped that probably wouldn't be enough of a deterrent to stop me.  I was wrong.

Wow.  This DOES sound like hell. Wow again. LadyTazz, please BURY that bottle! What an awful experience to go through for such a simple accident.

You know, it wasn't the worse thing in the world.  I mean it felt terrible while it was happening and I definately don't want a repeat but I am glad I know.  I have been avoiding sugar anyway but now I know that it isn't really an option so in a way it kind of closes that door in case I ever get the bright idea to start eating cookies or something.  I know me and it wouldn't take much to talk myself into it.  So as far as it being a deterrent it's not a bad thing.
I am a cheapskate so it's hard for me to through things away but this time I don't think it will be a problem.

i'm with you on both counts...cheapskate don't like to throw things out, and...
it's good to have a bad deterrent.

Yea - know the feeling.  I dumped too.  Now I tolerate sugar pretty good, but still don't test the waters often.

Stay away from it as long as you can!

Sorry you went through this - it happened to me too when I got a McDonalds SF iced coffee - they didn't use SF and WOW - I was in the car, not a good thing....

Sorry it happened but I guess being at home beats being out somewhere.  And now you know for sure.

I have dabbled, eatten a bite of this or that.  I don't know if I just haven't had enough to trigger it or if I don't dump but, I'm thinking I don't.  I've never been a sugar freek so I guess it's ok but I would have taken the deterant also.

I was beginning to think I wasn't a dumper......cuz I can eat pretty much anything I want.....which kinda stinks cuz that's one of the reasons I had this surgery......anyway I digress......I found out recently those "little episodes" I had on occasion after eating some things were going to be the extent of any dumping I would experience.  Until I tried some flan before I left for work one night.......I LOVE flan and hadn't eaten any because it is so rich.  Well I figured what the heck not much seems to bother me and flan is high in protein right???.....that was how I justified eating it........LOL  Well it made me so sick in a matter of minutes that I was doubling over from abdominal pain!!  I even tried to find someone to work for me because I felt so awful!  There was NOWAY I was going to be able to drive into work! But it was over in about 45 minutes......I stick with what I know now.....LOL
