Hi Gail,

1st, you're ONE POUND FROM GOAL!!!  Wow!!  That just rocks.  You're a pound from goal and Wendy is overweight.  What a great week this is.

Food does help when I get this YUCK feeling.  It's so foreign to me.  I just feel like food hasn't been my best friend of late.

My random glucose numbers were done after fasting for the night.  The labs were drawn at 7:30 am.  I thought that with good numbers, I wouldn't have any problems with blood sugar swings.  This is definitely something that I never experienced pre-op.  I've done Low Carb a lot of times with no signs of this.  Well, they say lots can change post-op, so I guess I'm getting to see some of that.

I'll see if Kaiser has glucose monitors.  I doubt they'll give me one, but you never know.

Good to know that Mylanta works for break through acid.  I used to have some in a drawer, I'll go look for it.

Thanks for sharing all of your great knowledge with all of us!!

Try the Mylanta, and also e-mail your PCP. You may need to go back to the trade name Protonix. All your symptoms could be related to the change in PPI.  Great glucose values.

As far as reaching goal weight, 120 lbs. was my first goal and puts me into a high normal BMI range. I have my 6 month follow-up with the Bariatric internist 3.4.11 and will discuss what my goal weight should be. I am already 10 lbs below what my surgeon said during pre-op. My PCP may want me lower, so I need to discuss it with him. In December, he recommended 110, but said not to kill myself trying to get there. I figure, as long as I am shedding some weight, I'll keep doing what I'm doing, so that I have some bounce back room.

Gail, I haven't seen you in a few pounds, but you're already looking like you could call goal if you wanted to.  Now what your body has in mind is another story.  So many LW's thought they knew their goal and then their body took them lower.

This AM, I hit 119.7, after bouncing around 120.4, 120.7 for a few days. I wanted to be a normal BMI, and it looks like I have hit it. I think, as long as my  body is releasing the weight and I'm not killing myself trying to go down lower, I'm going to keep on doing, what I've been doing and see where I end up. When I saw my PCP in December, he threw out 110 lbs, but said not to kill myself getting there. I will see the Bariatric Internist on 3.4.11 (after the second post-op appointment, the Bariatric Internist takes over. Another difference in programs) and will see what she has to say. I am already 10 lbs lower than the original goal that the surgeon and I agreed upon. I have some medical issues that might be helped, if I go a little lower.

Are you going to the luncheon on Saturday?

The FDA has tight controls on generics. The active ingredients are all the same as the name-brand.  They have to be by FDA standards.  The only difference in the name-brand drug and the generic could be the binding agents.  You may be having a reaction to them.

Good Luck with it!

Being on low carb shouldn't make the hypoglycemea worse. It is probably a coincedence.  I would think that it would be even worse if you added more carbs to your meals. Try eating more often. I find that I really need to eat every 2 to 3 hours, even if it is just a handful of almonds. What you describe does sound like a hypoglycemic reaction. Peanut butter crackers are good if you start to get symptoms, but it is even better if you eat frequently and never let your blood sugar drop. Since you are having these symptoms, I would make sure any carbs you eat are with some protien too since carbs, especially simple carbs can bounce your blood sugar around. I have had a really bad reaction before when I've had some fruit without protien with it. Hope you feel better.

Thanks Amy.  My surgeon replied that the berries (10 a day) may be causing rebound hypoglycemia.  I'm so surprised at that.  Clearly I need more information/answers because that just left me out here wondering what to do.

I do always have some protein with my berries as I have protein for dinner and then berries along with it.  On occasion I might have a few blueberries with my greek yogurt or cottage cheese.

I'll have to talk to my surgeon again because he insists on three meals a day spaced 4-6 hours apart.  That doesn't seem to be taking care of me right now.

Geez. That wasn't much help. The recommendation is always to have some protein with what we eat, so did he recommend that you stop eating 10 berries/day? I still recommend talking to your PCP, to see if you are having hypoglycemic episodes. Surgeons are good for some things, but in this area, I would speak with the PCP. I have some berries with yogurt and haven't had any problems with it, but we are all different. I wish you had a good dietician to speak to. A good one can be very helpful.

The acid issue may be separate and it sounds like you need to go back to what you were taking before. The generic isn't working for you.
