Ditto everything said above.  You have just decided to eliminate the frustrating years of Yo-yoing.  I needed this surgery not because I can't lose weight, but because I can't maintain my weight loss.  Wish I had done this 25 years ago.  However, I am looking forward to an active and healthy 30 more years.

I used to get the same comments, "You don't look that heavy," Do you really need to do this??"" And more. I started out at 210 lbs on a 4'11" frame, which gave me a BMI of about 42. My PCP suggested WLS and I was shocked. I had never been that heavy that surgery was even an option. As I started doing my research, the surgery made sense to me and I chose the VSG. I lost a lot of weight pre-op, which means I am reaching my goal sooner.

This AM, I weighted 120.6, almost to my first goal of 120 lbs. Since I still seem to be shedding weight, I will modify the goal downward. I hit a normal BMI last week. That was a great feeling!!!

Wishing you the best and only you can evaluate whether or not, WLS is for you. It is a major lifestyle change and it requires alot of hard work. The surgery does part of it, but it is up to us to do the work and to reach the finish line.

Welcome!!!

Welcome to our forum!  A bunch of very kind, supportive people.  I was told I wasn't fat enough for surgery and also told I "carried the weight well".  My surgeon told my husband the fat was so dense they had a hard time getting through it.  So carrying weight well isn't very healthy.

I'm glad you're looking at WLS because we all know how to lose the weight, it's keeping it off that's nearly impossible.  I wish I had done it years ago.  Looking forward to sharing your journey with you.

Welcome to the LW Boards.  WLS is a very personal decision and sometimes our friends and family are so worried about something happening to us they don't understand that we are doing this to have a better, longer life.  Good luck with your decision.  I'm so thankful that I have my family and friends support because it really helps me.
