Hi everybody!! since january i have been on the VSG forum, but until now i notice that this one exists. Im so happy, im 24, 5.2" and 220lbs, it seems that for everybody that i know, im lightweight and i shouldnt think of having WLS, instead i should been doing diet and excersise, i dont understand why people that havent been overweight, think that they understand someone that has been.

I have been told by the mayority of my  friends that im crazy for wanting this, that im going to die, and that my problem is that im too lazy and this surgery should just be done for extremly overweight people, and **** me off! because if they look at me and think that im not bad, guess what, i am, my BMI is 40.5 and i have high colesterol and triglicides, i have pain in my body, and beside that my family history regarding diabetes is HORRIBLE! so i know this is the best thing for me, and im sorry if some people cant understand it, but thats there problem.

Im so glad i found this forum, because know i can relate even more with people that felt or are feeling the same things i am.

BTW: is obvious, that because the mayority of my friends look at me as lighweight they dont aprove or support my surgery, so thats why i havent confirm them that im gonna have it... this is something i prefer maintain for myself and my family!..

Welcome to the forum and yeap, totally understand where you are coming from. I went to see a surgeon with a BMI of 35.2 so I know exactly how you feel. I kept getting told "but you can't be that fat"???

Make sure you check out all four surgeries and if you want to know about each of them just ask away. We answer questions over here without the rudeness of the other forums.

Thank you, i feel so much better now, that you said that!! and its true, sometimes people say that, "you are just not that fat"...  i usually hear that i need to be on a strict diet and do more excersie, but, thats it, and it frustrates me... IS NOT THAT EASY!!! i need something more..that why my surgeon once he saw me, he told me, that YES i am lightweight, but that doesnt mean that i dont need any type of WLS, as matter in fact, he said that this is the perfect moment to do it, because if i wont, in a couple of years im gonna be on the "extrremely overweight people"..so is now or never...

thanks for telling me about the surgeries, a couple of days ago on the VSG forum there was like a war between DS and VSG, and i felt so bad, because i come here to learn, and vent my thoughts, and get a good time, and not to be disturbed with rude people and bad attitude. But now everything is better.

I do find the DS surgery very interesting, but right now i think im going more with the VSG, but either way if any question pop-up, i feel confident that i can ask it here.!

Thank you very much!! =)

I get that a lot "You are not that fat" .  Well geeh thanks, its like they dont think we have the right NOT to be overweight and healthier.  My Surgeon said the same thing that this was the perfect time to do the surgery why wait until you are even heavier and more unhealthy.

I am having the Gastric Bypass.  My ins will not pay for the sleeve and I think because of all my health issues and diabetes that the gastric bypass is the best for me.

Good luck on finding the best surgery for you and welcome to our wonderful group.

WELCOME to the lightweight forum!  As a lightweights, we all hear the comments about, "you don't need surgery, you're not fat enough, etc."   Don't let that discourage you...you are in charge of your health and surgery is an EXCELLENT tool/strategy for managing this health!

I am 5 feet and my highest weight was about 220....that's 100 pounds overweight!  That's a huge amount of extra weight on my small frame!  Focus on yourself during this pre-op time.  Politely, thank people for their concern but let them know you have things under control!!!

I felt like I got my life back with this surgery.  The benefits really are endless....you'll thank God for them  everyday!  Best wishes and I look forward to getting to know you!

Welcome from another short, use to be fat person (actually, I am still overweight, just no longer morbidly obese).  Just wish I could have done this 20 yrs sooner.  But I am happy to have my life back.
You are the only one who can take control of your life and health.  Go for it.

Welcome to the board, I am 4'11 and heard all the time, "you dont look like you were that big" and " your not fat at all where do you hide it all?"
Yea, very frustrating, at my height I was at a 42 BMI, as of now I am still obese but am working on it, I will be "overweight" if I could lose 4 more pounds.
We all understand the frustration!

welcome to the LW board!  this is the bestest board in the world!  there was also very rude, unkind folks when the DS folks went after the RNY folks onf the RNY board!  anyway.....you won't find that on this board!  this is an awesome group that have helped me in so many ways!  You'll find nothing but support and encouragement here....so....welcome aboard!!!

after sharing with a few friends that i was thinking of WLS i decided not to share any more.....just on a need to know basis.....because the friends that i thought would be supporters were not.  they just said....if it's going to take discipline after the surgery just have discipline now.....i wanted to say...why don't you walk a mile in my size 18 jeans!!!  anyway....i had my surgery 6/21/10 and haven't looked back.  i finally have my life back!  i'm so excited!  the only thing i would change is i would have had the surgery many years ago!  i was a yoyo dieter for the last 30 years and this feels so stinking good!!!

once again....glad to have you here!!!
Blessings,  J
