I know this is crazy, but I need your input!
I know I tend to overthink everything...but maybe somebody else had this issue and can give me some tips...I will be 3 weeks out on Monday, and I am still sleeping propped up in bed (half the night) and then in the recliner. My worst incision is almost healed. Last night I tried to just get into bed and go to sleep like a normal person. I layed there for two hours worrying about my insides (remenent stomach, etc) moving around and getting tangled up!! I KNOW...weird, hu? I swear I could almost feel my little pouch and other stuff move when I turned over to try to get comfortable..finally I was starting to make myself nauseous with worry, so I gave up and sat up for the night. Is there any hope for me, or should I just go check myself into the loony bin now? Any suggestions anyone? Thanks !!

I think it might be an emotional response to something you don't quite understand or haven't fully processed. Maybe you could talk to your surgeon or one of his staff that is familiar with the way the remnant stomach is secured. Maybe just knowing the facts will help ease your mind. You are dealing with a lot of hormones "leaving the building", which can show up emotionally in all sorts of ways.
I hope you feel better soon and can get some rest.

Jeannie,
I suspect you spent a lot of time reading up about complications??? If you did you may have read yourself into a slight case of PTSD....LOL I used to have dreams about clogging because I ate real food to early.....I didn't even "eat" "real food" before I had the go ahead from my surgeon but I used to chew it up and spit it out when I wanted to taste what I had made the family. I had anxiety over the thought of accidentally swallowing food and clogging.....I think the first couple of months or so post op can play some pretty serious head games on us I would definitely follow Gina's advice and contact your surgeon and let him know what you are experiencing as well as your psych if you have one. I know I am able to contact and be seen at anytime by the psych who evaluated me and he actually encourages that I do so since he specializes in WLS patients pre & post op!
You aren't certifiable if that is what you are worried about......LOL

No loony bin!
I know since surgery, I can hear and feel things in my tummy that I really never noticed before.
I am sure as you heal, you fears will subside. If not, dont hesitate to talk with someone at your program and get a little support.
If you sleep better right now in your recliner, go for it. Sleep deprivation is never good!
Good luck! Hang in there.

Jeannie, we all freak out about all sorts of things in the early days. Totally normal. I can only tell you that I slept on my back in a bed from day one. If it was a risk, the surgeon would have instructed you not to sleep in the bed. If you can, just let this anxiety go. If not, you might want to talk with your surgeon's office. I know I called a time or two, and it helped ease my mind.
It will get better so take a deep breath. I am rooting for you!

Jeannie,
Ah, sigh, thank GOD someone posted something like this before MY surgery. See, I do my worrying in advance to avoid the rush, so I've got ALL the similar worries lined up, and I play with them like little beads. Will I eat too fast, wil my stomach malfunction, will I leak, will I get something stuck, blah, blah blah. When it all gets too much, I go take a bath in our whirlpool tub or play a couple games on the computer.
Now I know that the worry might be natural for some of us(ok, Heather, yes, I'm not SUPPOSED to be worrying). So thank you for posting. Keep posting how you're doin', will ya?

I slept ON my tummy in the hospital. that's the way I usually sleep. I asked the dr. first and he said there's no problem at all.
I too feel my stomach "exists" much more than before, I think it is just our brains overthinking things. just so you have an idea I first thought my stomach was around the belly button, like I guess most people think, lol.

You sound like my daughter. She overthinks everything too and sometimes she misses out on exciting things in her life because of her worrying. Everytime there is something new in her life it takes her awhile to adjust.
If you have to sleep in your recliner for right now then just do it and don't put so much pressure on yourself to sleep laying down. It took me a good 2 months to work through some of the emotions that I was having. Maybe try laying on the couch or just taking a nap in your bed for a few hours.
