hi ! i was wondering, do you think lightweights lose slower? is it easier to stay at goal weight because we have less to lose? do you find yourself having to get extra calories in to not be underweight??

how was your hair loss? i am a 22 year old female, just had VSG, the same size bougie the surgeon gives everyone getting the procedure. i lost some hair the first time i lost weight about 4 years ago and my hair hasn't been the same since, its been thinner and straighter. i'm really hoping it wont be falling out again :( i'm not sure i could lose much more, would have to buy a wig :( discouraging because.. my regular hair never really came back from the first time, so i am scared.

my surgery went well, besides after i woke up i puked blood for two days (i guess blood in the stomach makes you VERY nauseated) and i still haven't passed any gas.. in some serious pain from that and not sure what the deal is. today i had some probiotics and gas-x strips, still nothing. i feel it moving around in there and making noise... but nothing is coming to the end :( hopefully it changes soon.

Hi Samantha, I also has VSG and have lost 40 lbs in 2 1/2 months.  I think in general, heavier people lose quicker, but I'm happy with my progress. By definition, a heavier person burns more calories with each activity.

Being underweight seems like a faraway possability.  I figure it's easy enough to eat peanutbutter to get extra calories in.  I've seen some people struggle to keep on weight.  Somehow I don't think that will be my problem.

I want to knock on wood now, but I haven't noticed hair loss yet.  I think I've heard it hits around 4 months out.

I didn't have a BM for a week, and a visiting nurse told me to try milk of magnesia.  It worked within 6 or 7 hours.  I've had to take it 3 or 4 times since surgery, but to avoid trouble, you might want to try taking colace (a stool softener) twice a day.  I haven't had to do milk of magnesia since I started it.  Check with your doctor to make sure it's ok for you.

Okay, gas...

Two things that helped me, besides getting up and walking as much as possible was rocking and getting my husband or a good friend to rub my back to rub the gas out.

And it still took about a week to get it all out. Liz

Hi Samantha,
Congratulations on sliding onto the loser's bench!
you puked blood for 2 days!?!  Wow, you poor thing. And the gas thing~~ I so feel for you. I know that I can't do milk post surgery becuz milk pre-op gives me lots of gas.... so I've started using almond milk in my coffee.

The LW goddesses teach us so much here.  Please keep posting.  You've just earned your LW goddess toga. Hail to the new LW Goddess Samantha.

thank you kimberly! i will be picking up some milk of magnesia soon.
southern lady, i will try to walk more. when i haven't been walking i've been trying to be moving around still enough to get stuff going. it is helping, it just hurts!
raggetyann, yes i puked blood for 2 days immediately after surgery it was terrible and hurt so much, but i got it all out and the nausea is handle-able now if i make sure i have some protein shake with my meds and vitamins

Oh, I know the gas hurts...btdt, but those suggestions help me get the farts and burbs going, LOL Which in turn made it feel better. I got the suggestions from others who had been there, tried them myself and dang it, if they didn't work. Just passing along the suggestions.

But yes, I know it huts. Time is the only REAL cure.

Congrats. Glad things are starting to work!
I dont think we lose slower if you look at it statistically, or by percentage. I think everyone is different and finds what works for them to be able to stay at goal. I dont think many have problems with being underweight. I could be wrong.
I had the rny, and I have had some dramatic hair loss. Protein and biotin is all I can recommend. It seems to be coming back now after 6 months. But I also had alot of hair loss after an oopherectomy last year prior to the rny too.
Welcome to the losers bench! Keep sipping and moving!
