Hi there!
I'm Kelly. I'm new to the Lightweight board. I've been on OH for a little while now and found this area. I've been told I was a lightweight before and it surprised me as this extra 130lbs doesn't feel very light.

I'm glad to meet you all and hope to make some friends on my journey.

I'm a 33yo mom and wife. I've been overweight my entire adult life and have been interested in wls for 8 years. I tried once before in 2003 and insurance (state medicaid) turned me down. That was awful.  It felt so close and to have it yanked away tore me up.

Now, my hubby works at Boeing and their medical plan covers it with (typically) no problems. My brother and my dad both had the surgery and they were approved within a couple days.

I have finished all of the pre-requisite tests and exams and such and now I'm just working my way through a three month doctor supervised diet. I'm hoping for mid April for surgery. Part of me is scared it won't happen, but I'm sure this is a common worry.

I'm looking to keep myself occupied by spring cleaning and sampling protein supplements and vitamins. Anything to make the time go by faster!!

Have a good week, all. Hope to meet you all at some point!

Welcome aboard, Kelly. Which surgery are you having? I think we are all represented, so I hope you like it here.

Hi Kelly and welcome to the LW board.

Yeah, it's odd to find out in a world of being overweight that there is a place that we can be considered LIGHT weights, LOL'S!

I just had surgery 2 weeks ago. I had a DS. My husband also is a member here (another LW) and had his surgery back in mid Dec, he also had a DS.

This is a great board. You'll enjoy it.

Liz

Thanks Gina and Liz!

Gina, I'm having Gastric Bypass or Roux en Y. My family all has the very same body type and seeing the success my brother and father have had encouraged me to go with that surgery. Congrats on your weight loss!

Liz, congrats on your surgery! How are you feeling? How are things going?

Thanks for responding!

I'm feeling great. I'm healing very well.

Down 15lbs as of Monday, my husband and I only weigh on Sundays and Wed but I had a post op appt with my primary care doctor about my diabetes so I got on his scale Monday. I discontinued use of my insulin pump on Tuesday the 1st of Feb. I've been a diabetic since 1997, on an insulin pump since Aug 2003, came off it this week. :)

It's been a textbook recovery.

Liz

Welcome! This is a great board.

I noticed you posted about protein samples. You may be surprised that your taste can change after surgery. It might not happen to you, but I had a rough time finding something I could get down after surgery. Still not thrilled, but I can take plain Beneprotein mixed in milk or soy milk and not much else.

Sounds like you have done your homework and will be ready.

Welcome Kelly!!  I registered with the board a whole lot sooner than I actually started reading and posting.  It wasn't until I was through with preliminaries and had a surgery date that I came on board with earnest.  Thank goodness LucyCat caught me early and s ent me over here to the LW board!!  It's been the best thing ever!   Surgery is tomorrow and I haven't tried to run away or jump out the basement window even once!  YAY!

In preparation to taste test different proteins after surgery, I decided to buy some variety packs online in addition to buying the big jugs of Costco's Muscle Milk and Walmart's Body Fortress to drink pre-op.

www.unjury.com variety pack  20gms w/water
and
www.mybariatricpantry.com had sample variety packs of:
  Nectar - fruit & gourmet flavors  23gms w/water
Bariatric Advantage meal replacements  27gms w/water
Pantry Selections hot chocolates 15gms w/water

Not free, but will save me the cost of tossing or gifting a jug that my tummy can't tolerate.

Wow... after tomorrow I might be able to say... I don't have a grouchy pouch.  How cool is that?  Sorry.  I'm delirious.  3 hours of sleep last night and it doesn't look like much more tonight.  A 4 hr. power nap is all I have time for before I've got to get up & shower for a date with my surgeon.  :-P

Disconnecting this computer from the hip NOW!  See you on the loser's bench!

*poof*
