I've read that you should take your iron with vitamin C to help the absorption....

I'm wondering, can I just take my iron with a small glass of orange juice?  Will it work the same way or does it have to be Vit. C in pill/tablet form?

You could but you also get all those nasty sugary carbs with orange juice.

A small glass of OJ won't provide enough vitamin C to help with absorption.  You need about 200 mg C for every 30 mg iron and eight ounces of orange juice has about 120 mg of vitamin C.

It would have to be a large glass of orange juice and that is alot of sugar, alot of calories and alot of acid. I was told no OJ, ever/

If you get carbonyl iron from vitalady.com called Tender irons - the 60mg capsules already have the necessary vitamin C in the capsules. If you take heme iron - Proferrin, you don't want to take it with vitamin C. So it depends on the type of iron. All irons except heme require vitamin C.

For every 30mg of iron, you 200mg of vitamin C
