Take your Vitamins !!!!!!

Hey Everyone......

I've always taken my vitamins - when I remembered that is.  However, After the last few days I will be taking them as directed every day!!!   I went to see my doc on Wednesday because I was in such horrible pain ( I am 5 yrs post op).  He sent me directly to the hospital.  After being admitted, they did a whole blood work up.  Next thing I knew, they were giving me a blood transfusion.  My lab work was below "in the toilet".  My hemoglobin was a 6 and my potassium was at 2.  I have no idea what my iron level was but I'm sure it wasn't good at all.  My surgeon told me I was "flirting with a heart attack" and proceeded to scold me from there, going as far as telling me if I was not going to "follow the rules" I should have stayed over weight.  Tell me that didn't hit hard. But what can I say, he is right!

After three days of receiving blood and lord knows what else they gave me through the IV I feel much better and am home.  If there is anything to take from this is... please take your bariatric supplements as we are supposed to... it is so very important for our health.

Thank you for posting!  It's so hard to get the importance across to folks when their surgeons don't stress the issue or don't stress a vitamin program that works. I'm glad you got "born again" on vitamins.

I'm very lax with taking mine at the moment.  This is something I need to hear!!!  I haven't gone for bloodwork in a while....mainly because I'm afraid of what it will say!

Thanks for sharing!  I need to be schooled on this matter every now and then!  I was hospitalized once for a dangerously low potassium before my gallbladder was removed.  Was not fun and I still have not learned.

Jody, I've been taking the Bariatric Advantage, Chocolate Raspberry Truffle iron.  It tastes yummy enough that I have it for dessert every night.

Like everyone has already said, thanks for sharing your story.  I think there's a difference between Gina or Vitalady saying... take your vitamins gang and you sharing this sad story of what happened to you.  Definitely an eye opener.

I'm just under a year out from surgery and it's the daily reminders on here that have kept me taking my vits daily.  I think that I have a good habit now, for someone who never took a multi before surgery, but it's the challenge of keeping it going that counts.

Off to take my evening dose!
