Well it's cold as f here!  The snow has moved on thankfully!  So I was going to order tickets to roller derby for Aura and I and then the phone rang.......it was her math teacher calling to inform me that she will not be allowed to register for High School if she doesn't get all of her missing work in from the first 2 quarters AND she has 2 missing assignments this quarter already.....BTW the 3rd quarter started last week....  Well my DD told me she was ALL caught up on her late work.  Of course I went on to the Parent Portal to look at the grade book and low and behold she has about 30 missing assignments in a variety of classes from the first 2 quarters......I could about kill her right now!!!!  She has plans to go to Perpich Arts High School her Junior and Senior year and I've told her if she fails the 8th grade it's out of the question.....if she has one more LATE/MISSING assignment she will NOT be going to that school.  I have tried so many ways to teach her to be responsible....and she just doesn't listen....

Have a great day everyone.....

Maybe the consequences of her actions or inactions in this place will teach her something. I am sure she would want to advance, and the thought of not might make her get her butt in gear and get caught up.
Being a mom is tough! Hang in there!

Thanks Maria!  I sure hope she kicks it into gear here pretty soon.....I'm definitely at the end of my rope!  I hate to take that opportunity away from her but going to that school involves staying in a dorm and being extremely self sufficient and responsible.....and she is not on a path right now to beable to be that person......

Oh the days.... it was my son though, not my daughter... that did that.

Hang tough Mom!  Like Maria said - she needs to learn what the consequences are.

30 assignments would be way overwhelming to me.  Can you prioritize and get it to something reasonable she could do each week, while keeping the rest up?  Can you give her some short range goals so she can reach her long range one, going to her prefered high school?  Maybe some short term restrictions, TV, phone, computer, going out if the assignments aren't done before the weekend.  We all know that looking at the 80-120lbs we want to lose is horrible but not so bad when we break it into manageable pieces.

Ah yes.....I've tried all of the above.......apparently she still doesn't care because "middle school doesn't matter"

She now has a very short 10 days within which to complete ALL of her work.  I only hope she can get it done or she will be taking classes she hates next year instead of the ones she wants.

Yeah, I figured you had but thought it may be worth a mention.  Hopefully, she will get it.  But some of them fight learning all the way.

Just had to chime in to say, "I feel your pain!"  My 13 y/o son is capable of pulling A's and B's, but ended up failing his math class last semester and nearly failed two other classes because he either wasn't doing the work or (even more frustrating) would do the work and then not turn it in!  Arghhh!  He's doing slightly better this semester, but only because I have to practically sit on him to make sure the work gets done and that he puts it in the proper folder so he can find it to turn it in.  Like one of the other posters said, if your daughter misses out on getting into the high school that she wants to attend because of missing work, maybe this will be the wake up call that she needs.
