One week out from surgery!

Hi everybody!  I can hardly believe it has been a week since my surgery..of course, I was pretty out of it for the first two days.  It was an eye-opener yesterday when I tried to tally up my fluid and protein totals for my visit to my NUT today...I couldn't believe how much I had messed up some simple calculations and really had to laugh at myself..never try to do any math while under the influence of drugs..lesson learned!  So I had my NUT appointment and am doing great on protein but need to up my fluids by 20 ounces daily...so more work to do!  Yesterday I tried to vary my intake and tried an ounce of yougart...an OUNCE..I could barely eat it all...my 30 year old daughter was watching me and laughing..I guess it is kind of amusing..  I think I have been very fortunate so far...no nausea, no vomiting, and absolutely no gas..(knock on wood!!!).  I am still on full liquids for another week and then pureed foods for 2 weeks after that...right now, I am very content just to keep doing what I am doing and NOT rock the boat!  My biggest complaint is the JP drain..I HATE that thing...I have it in until this Friday and it  (or just the idea of it) bothers me constantly!  I have run a slight fever all week and actually developed a bit of a cold the first day in the hospital...it was NOT fun trying NOT to cough, but knowing I had to cough...but I seemed to have finally come through that.  And, after all this, I still haven't stepped on the scale...I think I have almost forgotten why I had this surgery and am just focused on trying to survive...I am such a baby...this made me  feel so fragile..but I will weigh in at the Dr on Friday, and then get into obsessing about my weight instead of my drain, my temp...LOL. I have been having computer issues, but it looks like my husband has hooked me up there, so I will be posting more often.  Hope everybody has a great week and for those of you who are up here in the northlands...batten down...here comes another one! Brrrrrr!!

The first two weeks post-op were hard for me, but seemed to start getting better around week 3.  Hope you continue to feel better and make progress.

Oooo - being sick post op is NOT fun.  I had a sneezing "day" - about 3 days after surgery - OMG I thought I pulled something.  Don't know what got into me but I sneezed all day long.  I've never done that before.

Glad to hear you're doing well otherwise!  Your spiritis seem so good - that's great!

Glad to hear that things are coming along!!  I'm not familiar with the drain thingy.  Was that special for you or do many RNY patients need it?  Anybody able to clue me in here?  Thanks!

Oops..Heather, is this better?  And Rutie, I think a JP drain is pretty common, but may be a surgeon preference...I HOPE you don't need one!  I feel like that "Alien" movie! It's a drain tube that is stiched to one of  the openings on your abdomen and attached to a suction ball that you have to drain and measure the "contents"...creeps me out for some reason!  Shots into my stomach each morning..no problem!

Congratulations and I am right there with you.   I hear you about the coughing and even yawning and I have been telling my family not to tell me jokes right now.  it is getting better though.
My RNY was open and I had the drain removed before going home... strange feeling for that.
Don't step on the scale!  I made the mistake of doing so when I got home and I had gained 8 lbs in 3 days at the hospital..... Crazy.  I know in my head that it is all fluid retention, but it still made me crazy.
I am just now, 6 days later, back to my surgical weight.

enjoy those liquids!
