I am wondering if this has happened to anyone else post rny..I went off gluten after some pretty severe IBS symptoms..before the surgery when I reintroduced gluten I would get REALLY sick..6 months post op I thought I would experiment and try some gluten today and I didn't get really sick..slight reaction but nothing that bad. Wondering if anyone else had any food senstivities that are not as bad now post rny and I am wondering why this is..very strange!

I think you're about the first I've heard of whose sensitivities have gotten less post-WLS. One of our DS surgeons said he's seen Celiac patients' reactions get better post WLS but I haven't talked to anyone who has experienced it. A friend of mine has Celiac and her reactions to foods have been much worse so far. I'm hoping by the time she's 6 months post-op things will have gotten much much better.

that is interesting, I had never heard of it getting better or worse but I accidently consumed some flour the other day and didn't get a reaction which is odd for me so I thought I would try it for real today..I hope your friend has a similar reaction that I had..I will still be GF as I already feel bloated and have a slight stomach ache but it really gives me peace of mind that if I accidently eat it I won't have that severe reaction..another reason I love my rny!

I was lactose intolerant before my RNY. I started out using soy milk for all my protein shakes. When I ran out one day I decided to try using regular skim milk....I was fine. I have used skim ever since for my shakes that I drink twice a day and have had no problems. It is really strange because everyone else seems to gain intolerances post surgery. But it's fine with me, the soy milk is a little pricey. :)

My mom had Celiac and I was starting to show signs of it but I haven't eaten things like Barley since surgery so i don't have a good gauge.

I have food sensitivies to oranges, eggs and beef.  I still get the same reactions that I did before surgery.  I think it may even be a bit worse than before as I get dry patches by the side of my nose.  Unfortunately beef and eggs are a staple of my low carb lifestyle.
