Congrats on your great losses, Rebecca and Liz!  I continue at my slow and steady pace.  I hit the 50 pounds to go mark today so I am feeling good.

Last week: 187.4
This week: 185

-2.4 lbs

I have started to work with a trainer.  It will be interesting to see if and how that affects the scale.

Amy, when I was about 4mo post op I worked with a trainer 3x a week for 2 months and I didn't lose a pound. I was obviously gaining muscle but it was discouraging at times. I did learn a lot from her though and am thankful for the tools she gave me.

Thanks for the warning, Rebecca.  I need to remind myself often that I did the RNY not to become "thin" but to become healthy.  Exercise is so important for my functionality.  For example, I can now whip up the three flights of stairs to my condo.  That was not the case a few months ago.  I was huffing and puffing.  That is one big NSV for me!  Still, I may turn to you for a little support along the way when the scale stops moving! :)

I agree about the exercise and I think it has helped with my skin also. I'm 4 pounds shy of 100lbs lost and I don't have an ounce of loose skin. Stairs are a huge NSV for me as well! I know how you feel about that one :)

Building muscle will ultimately increase your ability to burn calories and help you to lose/maintain weight. At first, it may slow down your weight loss, but when you do lose, it is fat and not muscle. Low calorie has to go along with any type of weight loss. Exercise by itself isn't effective alone.  Since I have been working with a trainer, I'm not quite as flabby, but it will never take care of all the saggy skin that I have. I feel so much better and it is helping me to feel stronger with each passing week, and I have more energy. I am at least maintaining what muscle mass I have left, and may even be growing some. In addition, weight training and resistance training is good for our bones and will help to decrease the onslaught of osteoporosis.

Now that the weather is warming up and I am starting to feel human again, that's what we are going to do. WALK. Told dh it may only be up the street and back but it will be further that up and down the hallway, which is what I've done this week.
