Grace under FIRE: to stress eat or not to stress eat
Well my dear mother in law is really not doing real well. It is day 4 after her colon cancer surgery. Day 1, 2, and 3 I was dealing with 2 sick children so I haven't gotten to see her until today. She is really talking out of her head. One minute she is hollering the next minute she makes eye contact with you and seems to know what is going on. The nurse seems to think she has ICU-ittus. She says it is what happens to people when they are in ICU a while. My heart is breaking for my husband. I have been in control but man I feel how easy it would be to really stress eat right now. My heart hurts for my husband he lost his Dad a few years ago to cancer seeing his mom like this I know is really hard.
I guess my question to all of you is how do you keep GRACE UNDER FIRE??? Being on the go every minute...running kids to all their activities, going to the hospital, writing lesson plans, checking papers, missing my husband, etc. I have tried to eat at chicfila, subway and other healthier on the go choices. I've been getting nuggets, fruit cup and a diet lemonaide for later at chicfila. At subway my kids and I share a footlong and I just eat some of the meat off of it and a little lettuce. I try to keep healthy snacks in my pocketbook for those OMG moments if I don't eat I will pass out. I just thought I would see how others keep a handle on this under major life stresses. I don't push the pouch cause the pouch pushes back but I have found that my fibromyalgia is taking a really bad hit with all the stress as well but I will do the best I can to keep grace under fire. Prayer has helped but I can definately feel it taking a toll on me.

My goodness, you have a lot on your activity plate! I have been "taking notes" since I joined the forum and made up a list of all the postings of "Grab N' Go" foods that the other LW's use. Maybe this will help you. If not, blame the newbie. Ooops! That would be ME!! LOL Good luck!
Cheesesticks
Greek yogurt
Carbmaster yogurt
Coctail Shrimp
Beef jerky
Turkey jerky
Hard Boiled Eggs
Edamama Soy Beans
Tuna pouches
Cheese pieces
Wendy's Chili
Rotisserie Chicken
Maybe keeping a little cooler in your car with the ones that work for you, would work. Take a little break in your car (not moving) and concentrate on you and your nutritional needs for a few minutes before you take off again to meet everybody ELSE's needs. You come first or you'll not be able to show up to the starting line at all!
Hang in there...This Too Shall Pass.

If you do well with Atkins meal bars that may also be something you can throw in your purse for those OMG moments. I always keep some beef jerky around (buy it at the dollar tree) and you know may help, this is just me thinking. Slimfast makes a high protein shake, might be something you can keep handy to get in something. Keep us upddated and let us know how you are doing.
I packed a survival kit this morning before I went to the hospital. It got me through the day.
Greek yogart
cheese stick
cheese its
apple
granola bar
I ate the yogart for lunch and a cheese stick for a snack. My daughter and I pulled through hardees on the way home I ate the ham and cheese but not the bread of a ham and cheese sandwich.
I got through the day great and even got my mother in law moved out of ICU into a regular room. She is doing alot better. Night and day from what the past 2 days were like.

You need to slow down in your head. I would guess that's half of the franticness you are feeling.
Right now, my husband has been in the hospital for 2 weeks, I am taking care of my 2 sons, working full-time (plus some), dealing with the house -- at first I was panicking and stressing (much like you are right now). it really struck me one day when I realized the "bad thing" isn't happening to me - I am just dealing with some fallout of a bad thing happening to someone else. I would rather be in my shoes. I have found peace in knowing that I am on my own right now and that I am in control of how each day will go for me. Each night, I plan out the following day -- clothes are set out, food is ready to go, phone calls are made. It has taken a couple of weeks to get used to, but I am no longer feeling stress.
Hang in there and try to stay organized. At least being organized and keeping the emotions at an arms length is what has helped me. Sounds like your husband is doing exactly what he should be doing and that frees you up a bit to do the other stuff. Take care and I hope things get better.
