Hi Everyone,
I am back home and sleepy. I am trying hard to get in enough fluids and protein but it is pretty tough. I have no desire to eat whatsoever, but I know I need to. For those who had a VSG how much were you eating in the first few days? I am sipping my protein shake but feel stuffed full all the time! I am doing well though, more uncomfortable than in pain. I am on full liquids but just am scared to overeat so i feel  like Im forcing myself to consume anything at all. Fun stuff :)

Welcome to the losers bench!  I didn't have the VSG but I'm sure much like a RNY patient your sleeve will be swollen so you will be uncomfortable anytime you drink.   You will have to force yourself to take your fluids in at this point but don't over do it.

relax, take in a little protien this week, fluids is the issue, and hopefully you have a feeding tube, use it, i used mine for 8 weeks,  it was a blessing,  eliminated all the pain in the ass sipping issues. and over eating or bad taste problems

Welcome home!  Glad you are back safe and sound, girl!   Rest, Walk, Sip.  That's as complicated as it gets right now.  :-)

Eating? I ate nothing. :) I sipped warm liquids constantly--cold hurt like a mofo. I was able to get in close to my 64 ounces most days, but that is only because I was constantly taking tiny tiny baby sips, so it was like a funnel. I didn't worry about protein, especially the first week. I was not allowed full liquids til 10 days post-op. Do the best you can, don't worry as much about the protein this first week. Let your new stomach heal a bit and concentrate on fluids first. :) Glad you're home and resting!!

Jenn, vsg'ers and ds'ers have the stoma*****ommon. I don't know how big yours is but I do know that I can manage about 3 baby sips (and I mean BABY) about every 5 or so mins.

We're gonna feel stuffed, our tummies were cut on and are swollen as a result and until the swelling goes down, it will get in the way.

My husband is 5 weeks out and just now really comfortable with his. He's graduated to full foods last week and started adding things one at a time to see if his sleeve part of his DS adjusts.

Our job right now is to get enough fluid and protein in. Make sure you don't get dehydrated. Vitamins will come in the weeks ahead. This week/10 days, focus on getting in your liquids. I'm not saying vitamins aren't important but in the few days after surgery, the focus is keeping you hydrated.

If your pee is pale yellow except maybe first thing in the morning, you are getting in enough liquids. If it is darker yellow, up your intake somehow.

Congratulations and welcome HOME!!!  I'm RNY so I can't answer your specific questions regarding VGS but I will tell you that I did NOT get in my required proteins/fluids/vitamins in until about week 6.  I did the best I could and I'm still alive to tell about it!!  Focus on the fluids....I did well with Gatorade 2 or diluted Crystal Light.  Hot tea also was soothing in small sips!  I wouldn't eat ANY food until you are cleared by your surgeon/NUT.

BEST wishes....get rest and keep walking....you can STILL get blood clots in your legs during post-op recovery!

Welcome Home!  I had my Sleeve on a Wednesday and was on clear fluids until Sunday when I was able to start full liquids like strained soup and greek yogurt.

In those first days I had a lot of no-sugar added popsicles which are 2 oz when melted. I drank a lot of herbal tea and tried to get in 32 oz a day. Set out a certain amount for each hour, then try to accompli****  I also fell in love with Sobe Water 0 calories in the Fugi Apple/Pear flavor.  It tasted like diluted apple juice to me. I still love it but don't drink it very often.  On Sunday I was able to do 64 oz of fluids.   You'll determine what feels best on your Sleevie, warm or cold.  Sometimes the popcicles soothe a swollen Sleeve.

My plan doesn't allow protein shakes and I didn't worry about protein until I was to the pureed food stage.  I just focused on getting in all my fluids and walking.  I think the main thing is to NOT make yourself nuts in these early days.

Hope you start feeling better soon. I still know I need more liquids. Just keep trying the best you can.
