Do you have a strategy for turning off the carb addicting if it gets kicked off unintentionally?

Well, this last time it took major surgery, anesthesia and pain meds to get me off of them ;)
Hopefully I won't have to do it again but realisticly if I find myself in that position I would go back to protein drinks only for a while and then full liquids, soft food, etc.  In other words a post op diet.  I think it was a good 2 weeks before I stopped craving them but I was hard core addicted at that point.
I look at it this way.  I am a recovering alcoholic and I learned from day one that I couldn't have even a small amount of alcohol or it would turn on the cravings again.  I apply that to the refined carbs like sugar and bread.  One is too many and a hundred isn't enough.

1.  I'm a rule follower and have always have been.

2.  Pre-op diet prepared me for the first months after surgery, as much as I belly ached about it.

3.  Support of family, friends and this group.  Thanks everyone.

Thanks for your response, i like hearing about what people have learned during their journey
Did your surgeon give you guidelines or a more strict set of rules?

I would say ours were rules, not guidelines.  Compliance was a big deal to them because they really wanted folks to be successful and not have complications.  We met each week of the 4 week pre-op diet, and with each phase change post surgery.

1) Follow Vitalady's guidance concerning vitamins, labs, carbs and protein shakes.

2) Get support from folks on the LW and DS boards.

3) Understanding the pros and cons of my surgery and how it works to make me lose and helps to maintain my weight loss.

So do you get your labs done by your surgeon or pcp?

My surgeon is local and he gives me a script for labs. He either adds to the bottom for additional ones I want to track or I add them.
