Having surgery soon with Dr. Aceves...low BMI

I have a BMI of 31 (it was 29 when I decided on VSG, but shamefully, I've been pigging out for the past few months). Going to Dr. Aceves on Valentine's Day.

Like lots of folks here, I wouldn't have thought about surgery if all the other diets (and trust me, I've tried them all) would actually work for me. Dieting makes me obsess about food even more than non-dieting. And, it just comes back when I relax a bit. Each time gets harder.

I'm also the "skinny" one in my family. Even my sister who had RNY is now bigger than me again. Are you sure you aren't a member of my family? Welll, maybe my WLS family now. And may Dr. Aceves family soon.

OK . . .now I'm embarrassed. Double posting (nope, triple). I thought the first post didn't go through since my computer froze. Everyone please forgive (or ignore) me.

Hi BBMaker..we sound related for sure, I am the skinny one in the family but frankly, I'm tired of obsessing about food choices and depriving myself, only to binge larger and larger.

I'm scheduling my surgery soon.  Please keep me posted on your experience and I'll be praying for you!

I had my VSG surgery at a BMI of 31 in August. It's actually pretty common. I'm sorry to hear you were flamed on the main board but you should get plenty of support on the VSG board. You might do some reading on the VSG board and see what the the common questions and problems are.

I was a self pay but did discuss my surgery with my PCP. She was willing to provide any follow up needed, other than what I will get from my VSG surgeon. I considered going to Mexico as you are doing and wanted to know if my PCP would follow me afterwards. She was willing. I did email her after my surgery letting her know how much I had lost. Fortunately she is supportive.

Good luck with your surgery.

I looked at Dr. Cirangle but never contacted the office. The website says they won't consider BMI below 35. I'm scheduled in Mexico, but would have seriously considered Dr. Cirangle's group if I had thought it was an option.

Dr. Cirangle's BMI calculator says to contact his office if BMI is 30 or above. I did, and he never said one thing about my bring too small. His fee is quite a bit higher than Dr. Aceves, so you're saving a bundle of money.
