My boss just told me I did not need to lose any more weight and that she was starting to get concerned because I am so thin I look sick. WHAT???? I am 5'4'' and 146 lbs. Wearing 8/10 pants. I am still 16lbs away from my goal. I do look like a wild woman though. My hair has started to grow back and it is all over my head lol. I am healthier than I have been in years. Did she think I looked sick when I was 252 lbs and could not tie my own shoes???or when I was on 3 different meds to control my blood pressure??? If she did she sure did not voice it then.....

when my office mate lost so much weight so fast, her face became very very thin, even though she was not quite at a normal (by the charts) weight. I recall saying "Gee, do you really think you need to lose more, you look so thin!?"  I was concerned for her.  But a few weeks later, when her body seemed to readjust, her face didn't look so thin, even though she had lost MORE weight.

Maybe something similar going on?

The word that comes to mind is "boundaries" as in does your boss respect the boundaries between you. If you are feeling healthy and your doctor has no problem with your weight or plan, I think you have no reason to be concerned. I am sure your boss is coming from a caring place. One response might be reassuring her that you are feeling great and working closely with your doctor to determine the ideal weight.

Good luck!

Thanks for encouraging words. I do not think she meant to hurt my feelings. Maybe it is such a quick change that she feels it is unhealthy??? I guess I should not care what others think as long as I am happy and healthy.

I think your boss is just concerned.  Sometimes education works.  Just explain that your body is adjusting and you're feeling great, being closely monitored by your doctor, and you're blood pressures is perfect.

I got the same talk last week.  I am past my goal at 5 5 and 125lbs.  I am not trying to lose any more but I am waiting for the weight to redistribute.  Enjoy your new life!

I'm sure she was just concerned.  I'm 25 lbs away and already getting some, aren't you done comments.

Your doing great and as long as you feel good, blow it off.  She probably meant well.

I think sometimes these  little "caring :  asides  we take ever so seriously from our female  bosses  are  just  token gestures of yes i SEE  You and i care ....

theyre  not really meant SERIOUSLY  ....as Suggestions to stop losing weight  lol ...

and yes , we can and often do look  gaunt in the face temporarily as we lose while we simultaneously still look quite thick down below  in the leg area .  Then the weight redistributes .

Once someone is overwieght, people think it is ok to make personal comments and give unsolicited advice. Her mental image of you is probably big, so when she sees you small, it doesn't seem right to her. If she hired a new person your size, it probably wouldn't cross her mind that she was too thin.  I would just tell her that you are medically monitored, very healthy unlike before the wieght loss, and actually need to lose more to be an ideal weight. If it wasn't your boss, I'd tell them that it was an awfully personal comment especially since she doesn't have all the information and shouldn't give medical advice when she doesn't know what she is talking about. I go through the same thing. It wouldn't bother me so much if they were like that to people who havn't ever been big. They say they are concerned, but usually it is that they are insecure.
