Considering surgery again!

Hi,

I had been on here last spring when I first met with a surgeon.  I barely made it BMI 40, so that should cover insurance requirement.  Usually my BMI is 38-39.  I don't have any co-mobidities that I know of, except for arthritis (I frequently have hip/knee pain - my PCP just said everyone has arthritis when they get older - I'm 53) which I take Advil for, and occ. stress incontinence.

I am going to call the surgeon's office again & set up psych eval & nutrition eval.  I have Fed BCBS and their plan changed so I will have to meet more requirements.  I hope I can get it approved.
I am hoping for sleeve.

Glad to see how everyone is doing well.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Welcome!  My advice is, Just Do It!  I wish I hadn't waited until I was 59 to do it.  Being active is so much more fun post-op.  Let us know how it goes with the evaluations.

Do you have any specific questions?

I love my Sleevie!

Welcome back! Advice...do your research on all the surgeries. Don't let a surgeon "sell" you the only one or two they do.  They are in business to make money, so research, research, research.

I saw Fed BC/BS have changed the rules. Now you have a waiting period - was it 3 months though?

Hi,

Well I am excited!  I talked with surgeon's office and will have my supervised weight loss on Thurs and my psych eval next week.  If everything goes well, surgery prob end of May.  I also asked them to check into sleeve, and if they will count my weight from last  year and if there is a problem with that they will let me know.  The doctor had wanted me to lose 15#, and I have lost about 1/2 of that so hopefully they can use my BMI from last year.

I am just keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Thanks again for all the support.

What type of surgery are you hoping for?  Remember that you can't take advil with RNY it is an NSAID and will cause ulcers.

Good luck and be sure to keep us updated on your progress.
