Just need to get it out
Ok, I'll be 3 weeks out tomorrow. I've lost about 17lbs. This has been a difficult journey and I'm not yet close to being 100% as far as recovery. I've posted before that my revision took over 4 hours and I was told that I had a lot of scar tissue. I was in bed for 2 entire weeks after surgery because of pain, swelling, and more pain. I'm still very sore and I've had some neg. thoughts about why I chose to have this done to me. I'm perfect with my vitamins, not so much with protein and water, but I try everyday. Sometimes I just cant get it all in. I've found a way to stomach the Roadside lemonade that everyone raves about.
My dilemma is...I've not followed my post op diet to the letter. I'm feeling a bit "convicted" by that, because going in, I just knew I wouldnt stray...but I have. I can't wrap my mind around being on pureed food for a month. When I do eat, I make sure that things are chewed well and I don't drink with meals. I would rather try and get my protein from food because the drinks aren't going too well. I thought I'd be exercising by now, but I can barely walk. My back aches, my stomach is sore, and I get tired really quickly. I'm not sure what I expect by posting this, because this entire process is a bit overwhelming. I've been through this (WLS) before and I know better, but I have a hard time DOING better. I can't really connect the dots.

The first couple months are tough with any WLS, On top of that you had a revision and the doctor's were in there taking down scar tissue/adhesions for a long time. Unfortunately you are going to hurt longer and it is going to take a somewhat longer to recover. You had a much bigger surgery than most. You need to be kind to yourself and you are doing great, 17 pounds is wonderful in a 3 week time period. You are getting all your vitamins in which is excellent. To be honest I don't think many people get all their fluids/protein in at the beginning, but you must try, try, try and then try some more, but don't beat yourself up about it. I would talk to your doctor/nut about the food situation and/or find more appealing options for the mushies. You want to make sure you heal correctly and not have any complications, it is just not worth it. That being said maybe they will let you progress a bit sooner.
I didn't have as rough a start as you did but my surgery was a bit long because my gallbladder was a mess and it took longer than he thought it would to get it out. I have always had a real sensitive stomach so not surprising I was nauseous for the first 2 months and then something magical happened and I felt like a new person at that two month mark. So hang in there, I know it is really hard, do the best you can and before you know it this difficult patch will be a distant memory, I promise! And as always come to the LW board and ask questions and vent it really does help!

It's great that you are getting your vitamins and you trying to get your Protein in. It took me at least 2 months before I could really eat anything and there was no way I could drink the Protein drinks.
Don't feel guilty because you have to stray away from the plan. For the first couple of months just do the best you can and don't be so hard on yourself. As soon as you feel better and can start eating regular meals then put your plan in place and stick to it religiously.
I found that I couldn't handle cold things at the beginning so I ate a lot of soup and broth. I put Protein in hot chocolate, SF pudding, SF jello. soup etc. I used the chocolate and the unflavored. Unjury has a really good Protein chicken broth.
Not everyone likes the Roadside Lemonade....it makes me gag. I couldn't drink the fruit flavored drinks for about 6 months, but now I love the Lemon Tea and the colder the better. I put crystal lite lemonade in it and it makes a big difference. I never tried that in the Roadside Lemonade but it might make it taste better. Jody really likes the Red Grapefruit and the Fuzzy Navel. Did you get samples from Vitalady? That's the best way to go.

Although I had lots of adhesions to remove and my surgery was long, I didn't have a revision so I know you have been through it. Even so, at 3 weeks I wasn't anywhere near recovered. Give your self time and things will improve.
As far as mushies, I was on pureed and soft for about a month. Creamed soups were a staple. My sister made me homemade chicken soup and pureed it and it was wonderful. I also at lots of yogurt, scrambled eggs with cheese, refried beans. I didn't much want the sweet stuff, pudding, etc. If you make a can of creamed soup, freeze what is left in an ice cube tray and you can get out what you want each meal. In my tray, 2 cubes was a 1/4c which was what I was eating then. Keep trying the protein drinks. It is so improtant to find one you can live with.
My back hurts too and I couldn't wait to see the chriopracter. I'm still going weekly. I'm not sure how they hang us up for surgery but it did a number on my back.
Keep working on the fluid. It will help in lots of ways.

Oh Indy, I'm so sorry you're not feeling great yet. Please remember that we're all different and all heal differently. You had a long surgery. Revisions are tougher than straight out surgery. Please don't compare yourself to anyone else. Let this be your own journey.
Do your best to follow your surgeon's instructions on how to eat. Don't worry about exercise until your energy comes back. Come here and post and tell us how you're doing and how you're feeling. You'll be fine.
