I did not eat ANY vegetables until  about 6 months out...had a V8 everynow and then...V8 is really  nice or those green smoothie kind of drinks you can get at the store...odawalla...not too much but if you feel the need to have veggies....I would also not rule out depression due to your anxiety level being so high...an agitated depression is a depression even though you don't feel down and could spiral down if not treated...just sayin' ... otherwise just sending you good wishes....sounds like the acid is really the problem....did you speak to your surgeon to ask if it could be something about your sleeve? maybe you need an endoscopy to check out what's going on in your aesophagus.....just a thought.....SEAVIEW

Yep, I've been having V8 (well, Trader Joe's version). I'm seeing a therapist and have a lot of experience dealing with my mental health, so I'm pretty sure I'm not in a major depressive episode. Thank you for your concern! :) My therapist is awesome.

I did ask my surgeon about the acid. I always ask his team first when I have a medical question! I had GERD before surgery, and they did find and correct a large hiatal hernia during my surgery. The overproduction of acid is very normal post-op, but some people just don't respond as well to the meds as others, and I happen to be one of those unlucky ones. I'm hoping the gastroenterologist will be able to help me figure out a solution!

Luckily, you have been able to tolerate some protein, which is a good thing. If you can tolerate the Jay Robb protein, use it. You can also mix it in the greek yogurt, to give it a protein boost and the yogurt will help to promote the good bacteria in your sleeve.

Protonix is working for me, but there have been a few times that I have needed to use Mylanta or Gaviscon in between. Hope you find one that works for you. The reflux can be a real problem, but does get better as your sleeve heals.

Soft cooked veggies like zucchini, squash, beans might be better and not produce as much gas as broccoli, cauliflower, etc. I had a great deal of stomach pain, like the experience you had, when I tried avocado for the first time. Sometimes, the sleeve just isn't ready for some foods.

It has taken me a few months to "love my sleeve" and somedays, I'm still not there. At least the nausea and vomiting have subsided.

As far as the family issues, they may always be there, and they are probably magnified, because of your own stress and everyone's insensitivity to your needs.

Good Luck!! Swinging critters for you.

Thank you for your support!! :) I really appreciate it. I'm glad your issues are subsiding--it helps to know others have been less than happy and that it's gotten better.

Take care!

I'm so glad you turned to the LW Board!!!   We don't mind listening to Pity Party's because most of us have been through a few during our own process of excepting all of the changes we had to go through.  Sometimes just putting it into words makes us feel better.

After reading your last post to Gina I think you need encouragment more than anything.  All of the doubts, feelings, emotions, food problems, stalls etc. are all perfectly normal.   It might take a couple of months to get everything worked out but you will be able to do it and then when you start really losing and get to goal you will look back and completely forget about these bad days and you will think "this is the best thing I've ever done for myself".   It's good to post "pity parties" on your Profile as a reminder so you can have words of Wisdom for a "newbie" in the future.

I have never suffered with depression or anxiety until after my WLS.  The first 2 months I was an emotional wreck which was shocking to everyone because I never once second guessed my decision and the day of surgery I was extrememly calm.  My Surgeon was so surprised when I went for my 1 week visit because I couldn't quit crying and wondered why I did this to myself.

Nexium made my DH sick and gave him terrible diahhrea.  He takes Protonix now and he hasn't had anymore trouble.

I am over 2 years out and I still can't drink milk whether its lactaid, soy, or anything else.  I mix all of my Protein in Water and I haven't had anymore issues.  I used to put Protein in a lot of my food, like SF jello, SF pudding, Soups, SF hot chocolate, Yogurt, Crystal Lite etc.   Have you tried the Unjury Protein Chicken Broth?  It's really good.

Early out I couldn't drink the Protein drinks and food didn't settle well either so I did eat small amounts of mashed potatoes but once I could tolerate foods they were scratched from my menu.  I ate a lot of soup early out (still do) because my tummy seemed to like warm things better than cold.

Sounds like you a smart lady and you will figure out what works best for you.

Roz, you are so sweet!! Thanks so much for your kind message. :)

As for the Unjury--while I haven't tried the chicken soup, I know they are all whey proteins and won't work. I have a few containers of the unflavored, and it's not really working for me anymore. Ugh.

Thanks for indulging my whining, it did feel good to get it off my chest. :)

Take care, Abby

 Hi Abby

I sorry you are having a tough time. I was nauseous constantly my first couple of months and therefore was pretty miserable at that time. I did eat more carbs but at time crackers were the only thing I could stomach.

As for the proton pump inhibitors, I would definitely look into getting a prior authorization from your GI doc. I am a pharmacist and deal with this all of the time. Most insurance companies will pay for anything if you can get a Prior Auth rarely do they flat out say no. Your co-pay may be higher than for another PPI on formulary, depending on your insurance. Since you have tried other PPI and they have not worked means you have covered part of the usual prior authorization requirements called step therapy in this drug category. Your gi should write a prescription for preferably a years worth of the Nexium, take the prescription in to your local pharmacy, tell them you are almost sure you are going to need a prior auth, and usually most pharmacies will take the ball from here. They will run the prescription in the computer get your insurance rejection and then fax the doctor the information to contact the insurace company. I know this all sounds very convoluted but is probably the simplest way. Unless your doctor's office is willing to call the insurace company right off the bat, my guess is the gi doc might because they also deal with this all of the time. I should explain why to try and get a prescription for a year, some insurance companies still associate the prior authorization with specific prescription number rather than a period of time. If it is a period of time it is typically a year and then you will have to repeat the process.

Let me know how it goes!

Wow, that's great info from the perspective of a pharmacist! Thanks so much for sharing it with me and everyone who might read it. :) And thank you for the support. I will update after my gastro appt. :)

Take care,
Abby

I'm so sorry Honey.  I don't really have anything to offer that hasn't already been posted, but I did want to l let you know that you're not alone.  I have struggled with my sleeve from the very beginning, and still spends more time disliking it and regretting it than working it.  My belief and hope is that things will get better for you, and that soon you will look back and decide it was all more than worth it
