3 weeks

Just like tdkgrl78, I lurk a lot, but don't post often for fear of some of the chastising on other boards. But, this group has always seemed positive and supportive and I just have to get it out there.

I am scheduled for VSG 3 weeks from tomorrow. I can't wait, but I'm already mourning food. I keep seeing commercials for great food at restaurants and thinking "we better go this week because I won't be able to eat like that again." I know it's silly because eating like that got me here in the first place. But, still . . .those damn cheesy biscuits at Red Lobster are screaming at me. I need them to stop.

On a better note, I ordered lots of protein shake samplers last night so that I can have them in stock and try them out with my new gut before I commit to a big jar. And, I got 10 bottles of clear proteins today for the 10 days of post-op clear liquids. I've tried some of them before and they were tolerable. I figure even if tastes change, I can gag anything down once and then move to the next flavor to try the next day. Also, have my sugar free jello, broth, popsicles, and sugar free pudding all ready and waiting. Trying to convince myself that those are all going to be so awesome when I'm on liquids. Mind over matter?

Thanks for listening. Just had to get it out there. Only 4 people (besides my surgeon of course) know about  my upcoming surgery. My very kind and supportive husand, and 3 friends who have all had the VSG last year. Nice to have someone to go to with my random thoughts, so I appreciate you guys.

My husband and I got gift cards to The Keg for Christmas and I keep thinking we better use these up!   I haven't even been to orientation yet but I have started drinking the ready to drink protein shakes and eating Greek yogurt hoping to get a good "mind-set" going and start my healthy eating habits now.  I figure if I can get used to it now hopefully it will be that much easier after surgery.

Where did you order your protein samples from?  I would be interested in trying different kinds.  I have heard that taste does change after surgery.

I, like you, have only told my husband (who is awesome and so supportive) and my mom.  That's why finding this forum has been wonderful.

Best wishes and here's hoping the next 3 weeks go quickly!

I LOVE Greek yogurt now, so that won't be a problem for me later. I'm actually looking forward to it.

I ordered protein samples from enjoyhealth.com, netrition.com, mybariatricpantry.com, and unjury.com. Individual packets of lots of flavors and brands. Buying the individual packets isn't cheap and neither is shipping, but I figure it's better than a canister of something I don't like at all. I've tried the Isopure clear protein drinks before and they were OK, so I'm stocked on lots of those flavors now for afterwards.

Thanks for the encouragement. Just have to use my PF Chang's gift card and then stop watching commercials. The next 3 weeks can't get here soon enough.

WELCOME!!!!  You never have to worry about being chastised on the LW Board!!

Unless you surgeon has you on a special cleansing menu or has a rule about gaining before surgery go get those cheese biscuits and enjoy every single bite!!!   Everyone I know has had a few "last suppers" so don't feel quilty just have fun.

I could have named any restuarant I wanted for my "last supper" but I chose McDonalds. That was my favorite thing to eat...LOL  Now I can't even stand to smell McDonalds.  Along with your taste buds changing your desire for certain foods will change too.

One more thing....you will be able to eat your favorite food again but you just won't be able to eat as much of it.

Congrats on you Upcoming Surgery!!!!

I've been having a few "last suppers". No special diet, thank goodness. But, I would like to fit into my pants when traveling for surgery and not have to buy new clothes for the trip.

Hoping my tastebuds change and chocolate chip cookies are disgusting after surgery.

Thanks for encouragement.

Welcome, you are safe here. I still mourn some foods  even now at 11 months out. Even though I eat what I want within my own limits,I often think I would like to eat more of it than I can,but i know that is just in my head. When I am done eating what I am going to eat,I am just as happy as if I had eaten a whole plate full. that is the beauty of WLS.

Thinkg will be so different fffor you post op. those of us on the bench try to explain it to those coming after us,but it is really hard to explain. it is one of those things you have to experience to understand at all.

I agree with Roz:go and get those cheese biscuits and anything else that is on your mind. And remember it is not "good-bye",but "see ya later,in a much smaller amount!"

Keep us posted!
Holly

I like the "see ya' later", but I do wish chocolate chip cookies would be "good-bye". By my choice of course. At least after surgery, it will be one cheesy biscuit . . .not 4. Can't wait to have help getting control again.

VSG on 02/15/11 with
Hi BBMaker,
Thanks for posting.  Please stick around.

I'm scheduled for a VSG on 15 February, so we're about in the same space.

I too am mourning food, and have been eating my "last pig out of  (fill in the blank with your favorite porn calories) a few times a week." I was on travel last week, and bought $100 of food for a week's lunches and dinners. I ended up leaving half of it unopened for the hotel maids because mostly I ate tortilla chips and velveeta cheese for dinner every night.   I can almost HEAR my liver fats increasing. YUK.

I've been playing with some of the protein drinks.  I went to vitalady.com and bought a dozen samples.  I also got some unjury unflavored and strawberry sorbet unjury protein powders.   I have a smoothie maker, and I'm hoping I can smoothie my protein drinks.  So far I've put the vanilla in coffee, and the fruit flavor in the lemonaid crystal light.  I bought one of those protein shakers from amazon, and that seems to make the powder mix well.

Since I have to do a week of liquids before my surgery, I only have a bit more than a week of non-bariatric eating left.  Ironically, it's the abundent salads I think I'll miss the most.

Good luck in your surgery, and thanks again for being here.

Good luck with surgery. We'll go through this thing together. I'm relieved to hear that I'm not the only one who pigs out on "porn calories" before surgery.  I haven't checked out vitalady site. Guess I should try her out too.

Ironically, I had a salad today at Applebee's. It was heavenly, but even now, I couldn't finish the whole thing. It will be sad when it's two bites and take home the rest.
