Ever wonder what to expect of a mature sleeve?

If you have had gastric sleeve and have asked your surgeon what to expect of your mature sleeve in 20 years, what did he or she say?

He says meats and produce are our very best friends, eating dense protein, I wont get to the point where I can eat 8 ounces of meat.  (I have a 32f bougie if that matters in your question.) I am nearly 2 years out and I could cram 4 ounces in my tum if I tried, but it would have serious hangtime at the bottom of my throat.

But the reality for then, as its true now is, if I eat meat and veggies, i can fit more in comfortably than I could meat alone, and the veggies help to shuffle food through faster.

And the truth about my sleeve then, in reference to the truth about my sleeve now is - I have a huge capacity for simple carbs, watery frui****ery veggies or well cooked veggies.

Edit to add - Dr. Cirangle has some studies that show that your capacity for a year out is your capacity (for dense proteins).  Some of his folks have links to studies if you care for them.

Course, again, capacity for simple carbs and vegetables and such vary.

Some folks find that during hormonal flux they have less restriction than when not.

Another point that is *well* worth making (and since I cant get into my other post, here's another one!)

Whatever capacity I CAN fill my stomach up to - I dont HAVE to fill my stomach to capacity.

For me, I had a serious weariness of wanting/needing/craving more and more and never being full and way too much never seeming like enough.

I am thankful, now that a reasonable amount is enough.

I asked that of my surgeon and he said it would likely stretch out over time if I were to stuff it with dense meals often. I asked about my habit of eating small snacks and getting my protein from shakes; he said the sleeve would stay smaller longer but there was something about eating as a grazer (that's me) that keeps the pyloric valve open, blah, blah blah and I tuned him out after that. I think he was just saying I might become hungry faster. He also warned me about becoming a "musher", something he sees a lot with folks who have the band. They eat almost all liquids or mushy foods and calories can add up if they're not sugar free, etc. I have a DS size sleeve and my surgeon uses a 60f. bougie. He doesn't go any smaller than that and puts a permanent band around it if he's only doing the sleeve but makes the sleeve the same size as a DS sleeve. He doesn't like the "string bean" sleeves as he calls them. lol   That's just him.
