UPDATE!!! On First Dr. Appointment...
Went this morning to my first Dr. appointment. First of all the roads were not that bad....Thank goodness for the plow trucks...They did a great job!
OK. I got there about 8:56 signed in all the paperwork was already filled out. They checked my weight I was 240 my BMI was 45. Went into the room meet with the PA. He was great! Took my info went over my co morbid issues. I have none besides depression :) he said he was very happy about that. He said I was one of his "easy" clients :). Anyways he asked me why I want the sleeve. I told him it has one of the longer term success rates even though it has only been around for about 5 years. It has less vitamin deficiencies. And I just don't want my intestines cut up..We laughed on that one. Well he said I hit the answer straight on. He went out and the Doc came in. We were talking. He is able to fix my hernia. He agreed with me the sleeve being the best option for me. He felt around my ribs and said my frame is small. That made me feel so good. He also said he has NEVER had a problem with a sleeve leaking. He over stables. But does a great job. I have already started cutting out stuff in my diet. I also spoke with the insurance coordinator. She said because of my insurance being "hospital insurance" we will not have a problem getting it approved. WOOHOO....So today has been a great day so far! I feel like my life is about to start all back over again! The best part of all. The doc had SO much confidence in me. It was so nice to hear. He said I was one of his smaller patient. He has very HIGH hopes for my outcome....

Wow - how great and encouraging!
Did they give you any idea when surgery could take place, or how long it took for insurance to approve?

Hi Jody,
I forgot to even ask how long the wait is for the surgery lol...I did ask about the insurance. Because my husband works for the local hospital. They team up with Anthem as a billing agent. So its really the hospital who ownes the insurance they just use Anthem as a 3rd party to handle all the paper work. Getting it to go through isn't going to be a problem. I have already called them and even the lady I spoke with today. Said its just a matter of faxing over my packet and they will sign off on it once they see what plan we have and make sure I meet the standards. Which I do :)

Congratulations on making it through the first big hurdle!!! Continue to cut things out your diet, and if you can meet with a dietitian, it can help you through the process. Pre-op, I started weighing and measuring my food, and keeping a food diary. I also started walking. Doing those things helped me to begin good habits and to lose 33 lbs pre-op. I am still doing those things and have increased the exercise during the past month.
Good Luck to you!!!
Good Luck to you!!!
April....That's great!!! I'm glad you are pleased with your Surgeon. Does he have a program where you have to see a nutritionist and a psychologist? I've had to get a few different clearances otherwise my paperwork went in the day Katie had what she needed and we got a response in a couple days. Hope it moves fast for you!! Good Luck!
