These are my confessions
Im 2 wks out and saw the surgeon and NUT today. I've lost 14lbs. The scale has been stuck at 228lbs for over 5 days. I've done great with my vitamins but not so much with water because I can't fit it all in sometimes. I've had a tough recovery. I've had some negative thoughts about what I've done to my body. However, I'm currently on mushy/pureed foods and some days I eat beyond the 2oz Im supposed to have. I don't feel great about that and it's sometimes uncomfortable when I do that. I know it's not a great idea, but really I sometimes DONT feel when to stop and I've heard about things being numb so early out. I've come to despise the protein shakes and I'm starting to feel like I'm messing up already. I came here to vent and ask...How do I turn this thing around?
I think what you're going through is pretty normal. Give yourself a break and don't beat yourself up. Priority right now are hydration first and always. If you can do your vitamins now that's great and if you can concentrate on protein in what you eat rather than looking for carby mushies, that's good too. Your taste buds are probably totally off and it's going to take time to know what you're going to be able to eat and like. Give yourself a couple of weeks before you start testing protein shakes again. You might have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your favorite but don't give up.

It's hard in the beginning, but the best way to make sure that you get in what you're supposed to and no more, is to measure your food, every time. After awhile you will be able to recognize your full signals and respond to them, but in the beginning, measure, measure, measure. It's a learning process and it takes awhile to change our lifelong habits. Best of luck on your journey.
Your feelings are very normal for where you are. You hurt and the scale isn't moving and nothing is easy. But it does get better.
14 lbs is great, especially considering the fluid they pump into you during the hospital stay.
You won't feel full right now because of the cut nerves. You need to measure so you will know when to stop and then stop. You can eat again if a few hours. If you get your fluids in, you won't think about food so much. Keep trying different proteins. I liked hot chocolate from the beginning, and the protein chicken broth. Most stuff was too sweet but I could do those and vanilla protein in my decaf. It's more important to get your fluid in but then concentrate on protein.
I found each day to be easier than the one before. Keep walking, sipping and resting and getting in your fluids. It will get better, I promise.

You are absolutely on the same learning curve I was on, and the same one many of the people at my surgery support group were on.
The fact that you know this is not how it should be is actually great - it means you are willing to try different ways until you get it right.
Fill a couple water bottles - enough to meet your nut/surgeon's guidelines the night before. Carry one around at all times until it's empty, and then get the next one. It may take a couple weeks to hit those goals, but having the bottles filled and near you will help.
LillyMae and Price are also very right when they say to measure EVERYTHING. I still do (much to the dismay of DH!) because it keeps me mindful of what I need to eat, rather than what I want to eat. Yeah, sometimes I have a smaller-than-usual pouch day and still get overly full, but they're much less often with measuring.
Finally don't beat yourself up. You are doing JUST fine.

Thanks for posting indygirl. You are about 6 weeks ahead of me, so I really appreciate your willingness to post what it's like in the beginning. I look up to you with your honesty , open-mindedness, and willingness. With that's HOW you'll make a success of this!
did you write a letter about why you wanted the WLS? I'm writing one to remind myself when i have an attack of the "What did I DO?" blues. My letter says things like I want WLS so I can get rid of my high blood pressure and high cholesterol; have less chance of staying diabetic; make it easier to move through space; be able to tie my shoes without losing my breath--heck, be able to SEE my shoes!
I'm rooting for you.
