Still Alive

But having a very difficult time . . . my mom ended up having a modified bypass procedure and finally came home after 13 days in hospital. She's doing well physicall but mentally not so well. It's as if she's given up. It's very stressful on my dad and me. I'm pretty exhausted and emotionally depleted . . .

It's a difficult time in life when you have to watch your parents fail. It's sad and frightening.

Oh Bonnie, I'm sending good thoughts your mama's way.  I hope she pulls out of it and finds some renewed desire for life. I understand how exhausted you are.  My mom had advanced altzheimers and then a stroke to go with it.  My dad was on dialysis.  They were 87 and 91 and 3,000 miles away.

Can you go get a mani/pedi and a massage?

Oh, my heart goes out to you, Bonnie. It is really hard to see a parent suffer. I understand that it is pretty common for people to feel depressed after a bypass. You might want to let her doctor know.

I am sending you and your family good vibes. Lee's suggestion of a little TLC sounds right on target. Please be good to yourself.

So sorry about the declining health. It is hard to face. I agree with Lee, take care of yourself and do something life affirming that you enjoy. Shopping, a movie, mani/pedi, whatever to give yourself a brief respite.

I'm REALLY thinking about you and praying for your parents!  I think depression is a certainty with any kinda of by-pass procedure....my DAD had it about 10 years ago.  It took him about 3 months to get out of his funk and realize that he had more living to do!

I hope your Mom gets to feeling better soon.  My dad started Effexor (SP?) after his procedure and it helped.  Best wishes....DO take care of yourself!

Hang in there and please speak with her internal med doc or surgeon asap. Being an old cardiac surgery nurse, alot of patients experience depression postop. She may need to get on some meds to get her mood straightened out.
It is so difficult to see someone you love fail to thrive. Will keep you in my prayers!
