clothes shopping - need some friendly advice

I am seven weeks out.  Happily, I have moved from a really tight 3x to a very comfortable 2x.  I generally need about 20 lbs to move sizes because of my big tummy.  Lucky for me, I kept a lot of my clothes on the ascent so I am good for now.

Soooooo, I saw a couple of items in the Travelsmith catalogue that would be perfect for spring/summer - a pair of skinny pants with an elastic waist and a camp shirt.  The question is what size to order.

I was thinking petite XL but is that too optimistic?  Any advice?  I don't want to wait too long because the colors I like tend to sell out.

I know, if this is my biggest problem, life is pretty darn good!

Thanks for your advice.

For now, stick with Goodwill...don't spend the money until you hit goal weight. You will go thru clothes sizes way too fast and can spend a blasted fortune otherwise. Or maybe find a friend ahead of you who can give you hers that she has "undergrown" on her way down.

I agree, too early to know.  We all lose at different rates and in different places.  I decided early out that only undies were going to be new, everything else comes from Thrift Stores.  And actually, I have a great wardrobe, much higher $$ than if I was buying new.The other part is that once you lose some more, the sizes start moving quicker.  There are a lot more pounds between 2x and 20 than there are between 16 and 12.

Price, I agree, undies need to be new. :) I did buy some socks a few weeks ago as socks seem to stay basically the same size most of the way down.

I think you will be totally surprised at how fast you move through the sizes from here on out. You could be in an 8 or 10 by the summer. Keep with Goodwill like Liz and Price said until you slow way down and get closer to goal.

I started in mid-Dec 2009 at a 3x. By end of May my swimsuits were a size 10 top and 8 bottom... and by September, an 8 top and 6 bottom. Those sizes will drop much faster than you can imagine: I was a "slow loser," and still dropped that fast.

Stick with thrift for a while longer, or go ahead and order yourself a treat, but go 2 sizes smaller than you think you need and be prepared to return/exchange it.

Thanks, everyone, for your sound advice.  I will start shopping at the thrifts.  Luckily, there are plenty of good options in Chicago.

A part of me cannot believe that I will lose all this weight.  I know I have lost 36 pounds in seven weeks but size 10 as a possibility?  My head starts spinning.  I have not seen a 10 in over 30 years!   Did any of you feel a little overwhelmed by the speed of your loss?

Oh, yeah. I skipped right over size 10. Went from 12 to 8 in about a month. Then dropped some more. Scared me spitless there for a bit. Didn't recognize my own clothes when pulling them out of the dryer. Get ready for a crazy ride, babeee!

Sometimes the petites are sized a bit smaller through the body than the regular comparable regular size...it might be more like a regular misses large....just check the size chart to make sure the measurements are good.
