...Well, maybe not. Tomorrow I get a wisdom tooth taken out and I've never gone through anything like that before. I think I'm having a mini 2-week freak, y'all. Holy crap! How long before I can eat again? Did I say "holy crap" already? How bad does it hurt once the Novocaine wears off? Dang!

I hope everyone's Friday and weekend goes well. Safe travels for Roz and good luck to her cheer team.

I'm leaving in a half an hour to head to the oral surgeon. I have to go out of town to one that accepts my insurance. In 2004 I had all 4 impacted wisdom teeth surgically removed and the oral surgeon chipped both of my back molars. Slowly they rotted away and I had 1 extracted a couple of years ago, and the other one is going today. I had never even had a cavity, only been to the dentist for cleanings and check-ups. I don't recall it being so bad, however, I did have pain meds. This tooth has been killing me, the nerves are exposed, so I hope the pain is gone after she takes it out. Good luck tomorrow and wish me luck today!

Oh, and I think I was able to eat the next day, but had to be careful about what I ate so nothing got stuck in the hole.

Mine all came out years ago and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.  The only big issues I think come if you get a dry soccett (sp).  Otherwise, be ready with some protein drinks and soft food for a day then you sould be fine.

It is finally suppose to get above freezing today and be in the 40s for the weekend but there is a ton of snow to melt so the ground will be mush.  Yuck.

I had mine out when I was 19 - a long time ago.  I remember my gums swelling up over my teeth and I couldn't eat anything but mushies for awhile.  I also remember after the extraction being in loopy land - LOL... that was kinda fun!

Swinging critters for ya!

They've gotten so much more sophisticated at tooth extraction that it's possible you won't swell or bruise at all ... The pain isn't as bad as a tooth ache.  I'm guessing you'll be using the other side of your mouth to eat really soon :-)
All the best

dentistry really has come a long way, but swinging geckos for you both, iust in case.
My four impacted wisdom teeth came out ALL AT ONCE-- with help from the oral surgeon.

What I recall was that the drugs for the first day were really great, and two days later I presented a 2-day training session where I talked most the day-- using tylenol with codeine every 6-8 hrs.

Mushies, yes.   You don't want to lose the plug that builds up in the tooth socket-- it's the mouth's equivalent of a scab, and keeps bacteria out. A dry socket, like Liz (?) said, is more painful, especially in reponse to extreme temps.  But even that can be managed well with a prescrip from the oral surgeon.

When I had mine removed (and I am lopsided as I still have them on one side), I had them pulled not cut out. I can remember asking him afterward, if he was gonna start yet. It didn't hurt any worse than having them work on my jaw for a filling for a normal session. I did have to be careful and avoid it drying out as the others mentioned but that was all, some tylenol was all I took.

Good Luck to You and to Shannon.  I had mine out when I was 19 like Jody.  I don't really remember it being too bad.  That was sooo long ago.
