Protein-- amount daily? And all those shakes???
The nut told me my daily protein allowance was about 65 grams. Up to 80 if I exercise regularly.
OK, I'm thinking about when I am past the days of working to fit in protein....
65 grams is what, about 4 protein drinks and no other protein? Or maybe a protein coffee in the morning, 15 grams of dense protein at lunch, a smoothie protein mid-afternoon, and 10-20 grams of dense protein for dinner/evening? I have read the menus and miles, and would sure love to see folks who do more than just protein drinks.
Does anyone else have a low protein goal? I see several ladies are short of stature (but not short of power, fer sure!) at 5'2" or under. On avg, how much protein do you consume daily?
To stay at goal do I need to live on nuts and protein bars and smoothies? And what about daily fiber goals? I'd like to keep the ol' colon a colon and not a semi colon, if ya know what I mean.

I am at goal and have about 100 grams a day...at least one 35 gram protein shake...turkey...
yogurt...another protein shake....or two later in the day....I do not mind protein shakes and need them for work outs and to keep muscle mass...there are no easy answers....we chose this path and there are some conditions attached to it....I guess you could eat enough dense protein to make up 80 grams but I don't like dense protein except sliced turkey and tuna fi****ake a stool softerner and drink lots of fluid and poop everyday sometimes more than once... I eat very few veggies and probably very little fiber reallly except I eat nuts so I guess that's fiber....I used to poop once or twice a week before weight loss and that's when I ate lots of fiber and everything else...so go figure...
excercize...water....and coffee and there you have it...my two cents...SEAVIEW

Some of this is totally individual. My nut recommends 60g per day for me at my size.
My body is much happier at 100g per day, and now with healing from plastics, that surgeon has recommended 125-150g per day for the next month. My body is ecstatic - maintaining weight, muscle mass, and healing well.
Yeah, for me, that means 3 shakes with 4 oz of milk, and one greek yogurt with additional protein powder in it.
My nut gave me the actual formula when I questioned her. Take your ideal body weight (yeah, like who gets to set "ideal?" Well, I used the insurance tables which said 134), convert it to kilograms (in my case, 60), and then multiply by 1.5 (for me, the answer was 90). So I kept my general target for protein consumption at about 100g per day.
The nut doesn't argue with success, and has started upping her recommendations for other patients as well (see - they CAN be educated!).

The siggy refers to the reconstruction/plastic surgery I had just before Christmas - I had a lower body lift that went all the way around at about hip level, along with a vertical cut up the center of my tummy to take in my sides, a breast lift and reduction, and then arm bat-wing removal that went all the way around to my back and up my shoulder blades.
Lots of skin gone.
And it looks like I'll have my thighs done in late March, so I'll be a new woman and about half the woman I was before i started all this! (actually... I already AM half the woman I started at! EEEEPPPP!)

LOL! As much as I love William Petersen, I will NO****ch the movie! (I'm a hyperimaginative wimp who can still get nightmares at scary movies).
Actually, after 4 weeks, it looks more like someone left a 4 year old near me while I slept with a red magic marker. Scars are fading/shrinking nicely with the aid of silicon strips and massage oil.

I always start the day with 30g in decaf. From there, I eat whatever, stessing protein first, then fruit or veggies. Towards mid afternoon, I look at my totals so far and decide if I need another shake. These days, I am having everything hot. Hot chocolate, hot lemon tea (nectar) but it must be hot. I want a minimun of 80 from food and drinks but don't mind at all going up from there.
I'm 4'!! but am hoping to grow at 62 like Shannon did. Many have added an inch or so after losing weight.
I only eat protein bars when I need something to take with me or something really easy. My "shakes" are treats and I don't mind them at all, but I love real food or I wouldn't have needed surgery. I think I have a pretty good combination of both for now, at least.

Our guidance was 100 grams a day in whatever form. There was no ban on shakes. So, I aim for 100, or more, or whatever it takes to keep my labs optimal: Protein 7, Albumin in the 4's, and Prealbumin at the top of the range.
