Am I the only one who gets hungry?
I've read over and over again about fellow OHers not feeling hungry - ever. I understand that we are not supposed feel hungry or full because of cut stomach nerves. I have to confess that if I wait a few hours to eat, I feel good old fashioned hunger. I experience an empty twinging sensation near my belly button. I am six weeks post op and expereinced hunger since the second week.
I still measure food (a max of 2 oz per meal) and don't always finish. I am just concerned that I have somehow miised this great outcome from the surgery. I will talk it over with my surgeon next time I see him.
I would love to know if anyone else experiences or did experience hunger within the first few months post op. Thanks!
Amy

I get hungry. I don't remember when the hunger returned, but for a few months, I was never hungry and had to remind myself to eat. Now, that luxury is gone. At first it wasn't like hunger I experienced pre-op, it was more like an "I need fuel" feeling, kind of hard to explain. But now it's real. You are not alone, some people say they feel hunger from day 1. I have heard that if you take your prilosec (or whatever you are on) it helps with that feeling, and I also upped my fluids a lot. Drinking tons of water or decaf tea or coffee helps keep me full between meals. I also eat 6 times a day and try to stretch out my meals, so I am kind of eating all the time lol.
Thanks, Shannon. I have been good with liquids from the start but I recently started to grab fro my favorite decaf diet iced tea as a response to hunger pangs. It does help! If nothing else, it distracts. I also make sure to eat two-three snacks as needed. I know what you mean - I sometimes feel like if I am not drinking, I'm eating!

Hey Amy....I have a suggestion for you.....If you haven't tried it already I would try the Nectar Lemon Tea instead of your regular ice tea. It is packed with protein and will help you stay full longer! It is an aquired taste........as all protein powders are......but if you try it for a month you wont go back to your old tea that has no nutritional benefit.........just a suggestion......good luck with overcoming your hunger!

I feel hunger a lot. I think I've realized that I'm really not eating enough at my main meals.
Also since the beginning, I've had the strangest feeling of feeling intense hunger about 1 hour after eating. I make sure to space my snacks and meals about 2-3 hours apart; so I don't eat again after 1 hour. That hunger usually passes after 20 minutes or so.

Well I've just realized I need to be eating about 1/2 cup. Up until this week, I couldn't quite get that much in.
I found that if I'm eating soup, it's easy to measure. If I'm having a meal with meat, vegetable, and potato, I measure about 2 oz of meat, about 1/4 cup of vegetables, and about 2 or 3 Tablespoons of potato. I'm not sure if all that is more or less than 1/2 cup, but I can't eat it all.
When I'm in a restaurant, I'm not real sure of my amounts; so I think I under-eat because I'm afraid of overdoing it.

I didn't feel hungry at all for the first month or so but I basically ate all day long today. I think I have been feeling hungry to one extent or another for at least a month if I wait too long to eat. I agree with Shannon, it is a empty feeling instead of what I used to know as hungry. I am allowed 5 meals a day and between those and decaf protein coffee this morning, I was eating every 2-3 hours. I know part of it is being stuck in the house with the freezing temps and snow for days now. I try to spread out stuff with decaf hot tea and to still eat on program, but I was eating all day.
