With the VSG were you intubated?
Well, everyone who has surgery of any kind has to be intubated since that is how they keep us alive when we are having surgery. Most of the time the tube is removed before you ever leave the operating room and you never know anything about it,except some have a little sore throat.
The breathing machines they use for patients with sleep apnea are different than the tube they use to intubate for surgery.
Hope this answered you question,
Good luck,
Holly

I'm a new poster here although I have been lurking for a long time. One day I will even get around to formally introducing myself! But for now a quick note to point out not all surgeries require intubation. Sometimes surgery can be done with a spinal anesthetic or a regional block with the anesthesiologist or anesthetist monitoring the airway and providing oxygen as needed. However, I do believe all the major wls do require intubation. I'm a PA (Physician's Assistant).
Thanks for the clarification. You are correct SOME surgeries can be done without intubation, but I have never heard of an abdominal surgery, xcept Csections being done that way.
since we were talking about abdominal surgery i didn't see the need to clarify, but i do stand corrected.
Thanks! and do make your presence known. We could use a PA around here !

Yes, they use the patients C-Pap after they are extubated to make sure the patient doesn't have any apnea episodes before they are fully awake.
Interestingly enough,I don't have sleep apnea, but was having some episodes of apnea when I was coming out of anesthesia. I woke up with a Cpap on and I don't even have one, lol. After I was awake good and my DH was able to watch me in my room,I was able to discontinue it. This was during a gallbladder removal.

I didn't have a sleeve but our group intubates everyone with any kind of WLS. I never knew, mine was in after I was out and out before I woke up.
