Lightweights at or below goal?
I've been posting on the RNY board, but hoping for some lightweight specific advice...
Just wandering if you upped your calories for maintenance or if weight loss tapered off on it's own? And, how did you know you were at the place that's right for you?
I'm 5'5". Pre-op my surgeon gave me a goal weight of 150. I asked him if 140 was reasonable - he said maybe - so I set that as my goal. On 12/20 I met with a plastic surgeon who told me to lose 5 more so that my weight would be "ideal". I lost that with no change to my food/exercise plan. So, I'm assuming that I'm going to lose more.
What are your thoughts on goal weight? Did you go under? By much?
Thanks for your help!

I'm 5'6" and set my goal weight at 120, I will probably lose another 10 to leave room for bounceback. I'm only 11 months out and I imagine I will continue to lose for a while yet before I lose all malabsorption. I eat anywhere from 1000 - 1500 calories a day depending on how much exercise I get in but generally I'm at the higher end of the scale and will most likely stay at this calorie range for the rest of my life.
At 120, you must be very thin? I can't imagine myself much thinner - I wear a size 6 comfortably. I'm probably in the same calorie range as you but my exercise, while daily, is pretty minimal - 30 mins. on the treadmill.
What size are now? And, where do you buy clothes -- my favorite store only goes down to a 4 in most items.
Anyway, congratulations on reaching your goal! Thanks for your help.

I don't think I'm too thin, but then everyone's idea of body size is very personal. I prefer a leaner look with minimal curves and thankfully that is what I got! I just wish I didn't waste more than half my life in a fat suit.
I still have a bit in the tummy area that I would like gone but I doubt it'll happen. I had a tummy tuck 20 years ago after losing a bunch of weight so I don't have a pani to deal with but I would like to lose a bit more to see if my tummy will get a little flatter.
I'm pretty much a size 4, some stores/designers I need a 2. I pretty much shop at Marshall's/TJ Maxx type stores but I'm finding it hard to find clothes there now. So I'm going to have to stop being such a cheapskate and buy full price clothes at the malls! LOL
I powerwalk to work and back 20 minutes each way up and down hills and I try to either do 75 flights of stairs in my office building or 60+ minutes on the elliptical 4-5 days a week. Weekends I pretty much only get exercise walking around shopping. :0)

My surgeons goal was 121 for me. I have hit 111 but feel more comfortable at 115. I have been teetering between 111 to 112. Around the time of my period I will go as high as 114 but drop back soon after. Guess I will see where I actually stay. During Christmas I ate a little of this and a little of that but still haven't gained.
See my signature... I'm THIN, and needing to up my fats and calories to maintain at a point where my PCP, PS, nut, and bariatric surgeon feel I'm ok (the NP at the bariatric surgery says I can lose 20 more pounds and be ok! I say she's taking some very interesting meds!).
In my case, we added in more complex carbs, more nuts (2 servings of nuts/nut butters per day), changed my milk to 1% rather than skim (she wanted me to go back to 2%, but it just tasted slimy), and added in a 3rd shake (which now went to 4 shakes after plastics).
My body apparently does everything whole-heartedly. When I was eating, it grabbed and kept every calorie. After surgery, it started flinging them all off.
It's a balancing act. I was ok with the losing until I got seriously bony. Then I saw the nut, we changed the foods, and although I didn't gain weight back, I did stabilize and after a month or so I saw the last of my fat redistribute back up onto my upper chest and into my face. That's fine with me. I can handle thin - I can't handle bony.
My plan is for 1900 calories per day to maintain, but after plastics, I'm lucky to get in 1600 (see my pity party post - uggghhh!).
You'll figure it out. Talk to your nut, see what your body considers "safe," and stick to that.

I'm 5' 8" and 140....see my profile picture...and I am thin but not too thin by any means...
my surgeon told me I could lose 5 more if I wanted to...There is nothing wrong with being very thin as long as you are within your BMI and you like the way you look. We are ALL going to gain some back at some point so may as well get as low as you can. That being said...if you want to continue to lose...keep your carbs under 40 a day...excercize a LOT...and eat protein and more protein and more protein...and some veggies...your weight will come off slower as you get closer to goal and then you can up the carbs a bit until you stop losing...your body at 5' 5" could probably be leaner but if you are happy where you are just increase your carbs.......GOOD CARBS and calories 100 a day and see when you stop losing...good luck ...it's a dance...SEAVIEW
