What do you know about your pouch?
Ok, I have a question for ALL post-op WLS'ers. How well do you know your pouch? What are its limitations...how do you know what it likes and doesn't like? How do you feel and what do you feel when you have stuff you shouldn't?
Sorry, that was more than 1 question, right?
I thought this would be a very interesting topic and see if we are really in tune with our pouches and bodies.
I will start off....

I will start off....
After a year of this journey, I have learned that my body is a SLOW LOSER!
My pouch and body reacts to sugar and fat DIFFERENTLY
I DO DUMP! But I am not a "typical" dumper. HA...sounds funny...
Fat makes me get the worst bubble gut with cramps and full on gut pain. With high fat...I can have an instant onset of dumping or I have even had a delayed dump (30+min after meals) High fat content literally tries to kill me from the inside out. No rapid heart rate but the worst pain...body crashes and I sleep off the rest.
Sugar makes me physically ill. For example, today, I snuck in 3 cherries from a homemade cherry pie...and even stuck those bites a little bit at a time in between protein...to "cushion" the impact...well, either way...it is a NO GO. I have a headache, feel quisey, back and neck are achey and if I could go to sleep right now I would. I do not get rapid heart rate or sweats, bubble gut or pain with high sugar. Just all other wonderful icky feelings.
Put the both together (accidental full sugar latte from Starbucks) and I really want to die.
Simple carbs and other starchy carbs are iffy. Soft breads...hurts the pouch. Dried carbs such as crackers and biscottis...couldn't resist...lol....are awesome! They sit well. But after long exposure...My body feel POOFY and I am sluggish.
Of course, staying on PLAN works. (except hard boiled eggs and dry meats).
So, how about you?? How would you describe your pouch life with others...what works what doesnt?

Well..... I know when even one more bite will bring about dire consequences. I have crossed that line a few times... don't want to do that again!
I know that cereal with milk (combo of carbs and sugar?) really does not sit well with my pouch.
I definitely agree that high-fat foods are a no-go.
Rice is definitely a NO-NO for me. I can eat mashed potatoes (just a little spoonful) but no rice at all.
My pouch HATES EGGS OF ANY TYPE. We are talking a serious adversion to eggs. This is new post-pouch. Before WLS, I loved eggs - scrambled, omelets, hard boiled, etc. Just can't eat them any more.
My pouch likes frequent small meals.
It does not like to be rushed.

For a long time I could not eat chicken and turkey (I love both), so each month I would try again, and finally I did not get sick. I also had a dumping episode (which "they" say doesn't happen to sleevers) after eating chocolate covered peanuts.
I can now eat anything except broccoli and cabbage. I love both of these, so I will continue to try them occasionally to see if they are ok. I get the foamies within 5 minutes of eating either. I guess because they are gassy foods?
Starchy foods go down way too easily and I can eat way too much of them (including bread), so I don't most of the time.
I don't have near the restriction I used to, and my hunger has returned for the most part. I can eat about a half of a restaurant portion (in other words, recommended serving sizes). So I have to be careful about what I put in my mouth. I choose raw veggies and hummus for low-calorie, larger portion snacks, etc.

When I had my DS I had many episodes that to me seemed like the defination of dumping. The strange thing was that I could never relate them to anything I ate. Usually I would wake up and run to the bathroom feeling like I was going to throw up and have diarrhea. I would be sweaty and my heart was pounding. I remember thinking I wish I would die right now. I never knew what would bring it on. I was usually many hours after I ate. I would say it happened every few months. I haven't had it happen since my revision.
