I have started a new exercise routine. Cardio and weight lifting. It seems like my appetite has increased. I still have good restriction, but seem to be hungry faster in between meals. Any suggestions is appreciated.

I'll be interested in what others have to say. I just started cardio and weight training and have noticed an increase in my appetite.

How about a protein bar or shake after you work out?

My trainer recommended eating before and after the workout. Since I work out in the evening most of the time, I eat a protein based dinner. She just about keeled over, when I told her how many calories/day that I was eating (600-800 cal/day).

I definitely notice a difference in my appetite when I exercise.     I always eat a greek yogurt or a piece of protein bar before or after I exercise.  Cindy

When I first started working out really hard, I noticed an increase in my appetite. But after awhile, it balanced out. Do you tolerate raw veggies yet? I needed to up healthy carbs (veggies and a few whole grains) and my calories, so I added that stuff back in. Also, you can eat a lot of veggies for just a few calories. If you need some extra flavor, dip them in hummus.

When I exercise, I usually try to eat 1/2 a protein bar or some raw veggies right before.  Seems to help with my energy level also.

On the days that I have a heavy workout I plan extra protein.....that way it is not just mindless eating but rather a planned increase only when I workout...I feel that with fueling specifically for the workout I will hopefully avoid the trap of increasing calories that lead to weight gain because of eating even when not exercising.

Thanks for the responses. I tried a protien shake 1/2 before the workout and 1/2 after the workout and it helped a little. I need to plan a healthy low cal low carb high protein snack on my workout days too. I think no snacks is going to not work for me. as long as I add it into the total for the day I should be good.
