Good Morning. Vitamins matter

Anybody's energy zapped and your feeling whopped? How are you doing with your vitamins and protein? How are your labs?

Top 4 culprits for low energy:
Low protein
Low D3
Low iron & ferritin
Low B12

I work like a dog and still can't get my protein up to 7 but my albumin is in the 4s and my prealbumin is a little over the top of the range. D3 was at 116 until I started taking Fosamax for osteoporosis, now it's right around 80. Iron and ferritin are saggy by Vitalady's goals but they are definitely coming up since I added a daily Proferrin ES (heme iron). My ferritin was in the 160's last time. B12, well lets just say I can't keep it up and over the top of the range unless I take 5,000mcg every day. I cut it to every other day and it dropped like a rock on my labs.

What's your story?

I swear my energy shot up when I started Vitaladies D3.  I had still been kind of sluggish before but have great energy now.  I'll have labs drawn in Feb for a March appointment so we'll see then how everything is.  The only problem I have getting everything in is the Calcuim through the day.  I need to do better with that.

I am terrible with my vitamin intake.  Supplementation is one of my top goals right now.

What system do you guys have for organizing your vitamins?

Several family members utilize pill organizers.  This might be good for me- especially if I can do them once per week and then carry them with me.  I have never been a purse person, but I am on the lookout for a cute bag where I can put them all in one locations.  Between 3 part time positions I just can't keep a constant supply everywhere so I need a central location.

Just wondering how ofter your surgeron's check your levels.  Mine does not until 1 year post op, which to me seems like to long.

I have a vitamin organizer I bought at Walgreens - but what I LOVE about it, is the days come apart.  So I fill it up at the beginning of the week and can just snap off the day of the week it is, throw it in my purse and I'm out the door for work.  I also put my calcium (I use the chewables and lozenges) in the snack size zip lock bag and throw in my purse.  When I get to work I set it out on my desk so its in view and I don't forget.  When I'm at home (not working, or working from home) I eat the chocolate chewies like they're a snack... often I'll be scrounging around in the kitchen looking for something to snack on, see my "calcium canister" and eat one - it takes care of the snacky craving I was having  - AND I get in my calcium!

Hey Brittany -
I am terrible with mine too, but I'm getting much better since I took the advice from the following two threads:

From earlier days before I discovered the LW's:
www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/4244140/Need-to-be-motivated- to-take-vitamins/

And then this was more recent.

I am looking for an organizer too.  Check them out here:  www.forgettingthepill.com/organizers.html

I go back in Feb to have my labs redrawn. I am hoping my cholesterol goes down. So far it had not moved and looks like I will have to go on a statin to control it (hereitary)
Everything else looked fairly well, my b12 was a bit high so I slacked off a little. He did not do a Vit D so I have no clue where that stands.
As I said I will have them redrawn in Feb and will have better numbers then.

So far my labs are good. I get them drawn again next month for my 1 year check up. My energy is really good...especially considering how busy I have been.

I await the results of my labs drawn last week.  My main culprit in vitamin compliance is in remembering the middle of the day calcium, too.  It's the thorn in my side!

My energy is great so long as I remember my final iron pill and am exercising.  My energy is lower on days when I don't exercise.

Which reminds me...I need to get to the gym in a few minutes!

My vitamin regimine is pretty solid - luckily I've done well taking them since surgery. Yes, I forget once in a great while, but I jump right back on.

My problem is my iron.  I have been taking it for the past 2 days and WILL continue.  I take it right before bed - and know I have to.

The rest of the list I'm doing well with, with my D and B over the top (which I'm not complaining about, but the NUT was).

I have a schedule for my vitamins and stick pretty close to it.  It is a little harder on the weekends.

My liver enzymes were way too high so I added the Milk Thistle, stopped the lovastatin and had labs redrawn last week.  I'm waiting on the results now.  I took the Milk Thistle atleast 2 weeks before I had the labwork done.

My surgeon only does labs yearly, but I'm going to talk with my PCP about getting them in February(six months) with her and then in July with the surgeon because I would really like them every six months.  If my PCP won't agree I will go to a website I found here and get my own labs ordered and file with my insurance.
