Hysterectomy after WLS

I had my appt with my ob/gyn this morning.  She brought up hysterectomy.  Ive had heavy periods in the past.  I had an ablation & d/c 3 yrs ago.  The periods got lighter after that procedure but never totally quit.  Now Im once again dealing with the heavy bleeding & clots.  My last period lasted 2 weeks   .   She ordered a sonogram and bloodwork then we are going to discuss the possible hysterectomy when I go back in 2 weeks.  Ive heard horror stories about hormones, weight gain ect after hysterectomies, so Im rather nervous.  Im only 43 yrs old.  Any words of wisdom out there?  Thanks!    Cindy

You are about the age I was when I had my hysterectomy. I have never regretted it. I had terrible periods and was very anemic. This was before I had WLS. It was very freeing when I stopped having periods. Good luck.

I had a little bounce up the year I started hormones but it came back off. Then I had the hysti with a bladder lift--so far no bounce up {knocking on wood}.

I'm 42. Was offered hysterectomy 5 years ago and thought "I was too young". Had it 2 months ago and it's been amazing. No pain, no bleeding.Wish I had it 5 years ago. Did a half marathon 4 weeks later. Felt great. If you keep your ovaries, there won't be any change in hormones.
