OT hysterectomy & bladder problems

I know this is not wls related, but thought somebody here might help.  I had hysterectomy and virginal repair 11/9.  Now I have serious bladder leakage.  Dr has prescibed Vericare and Ditropan.  All they do is cause dry mouth and skin.  I am still leaking.  Dr says no surgery will help me.

Anybody have any idea of medicine, exercise, website, doctor, etc.  I am sick of wearing pads.  I am too young for this.

I don't know what type of doctor you are seeing, but I would go to a urologist. If you are already seeing one, get a second opinion. This just doesn't sound normal to me. I always like to check with someone who is an expert in these matters.

Good luck getting this all resolved!

Hey Ruby,

If you're not seeing a urologist for this problem you should definitely see one or a DIFFERENT one.  Have you had a urogram done?  It's a radiological study where the urologis****ches the bladder fill and does a series of exercises to see what causes the leaking they then decide if there is a surgical procedure that will help you based on the mechanics of your leaking.  There is hope for you yet my dear!  They have stimulators they can put in, or bladder lifts....never let them tell you never!

PS.....ARE YOU DOING KEGALS?  YOUR BLADDER MAY STILL BE WEAK FROM BEING CATHETERIZED.  I KNOW IT TOOK SEVERAL MONTHS FOR ME TO STOP LEAKING AFTER BEING CATHED.

Thanks to Liz and Heather.  So far I have only seen GYN who did surgery.  I am trying to be patient.  It has been eight weeks.  I am to see Dr in four weeks.  I am told they will examine me and see what problem is then.  It is just hard to be patient.  I say I am leaking, but really I am flooding.  Surgery was done at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.  You would think somebody there could fix me.  Dr says he does not like 'slings.'  Says body does not like  unnatural things in body.

Your welcome Ruby!  I wouldn't wait to see a urologist.  Make an appointment tomorrow and get your second opinion.  Does your GYN put IUD"s in his patients or does he tell them it's "unnatural"  I doubt it.  I have an IUD, and sutures everywhere in my abdomen which I wasn't born with and for some reason I'm still kicking........LOL  Have you had WLS yet or are you just looking it to it at this point?  WL will definitely help with incontinence and sometimes even a sling can't help if there is to much excess weight.  My friend who had surgery 12/27 had a sling put in 2 years ago and said she didn't see any improvement.

I had RNY 3/2005--262/125/133 hi/lo/today.  I did read in Readers Digest (August 2010--I think--Medical Devices That Can Kill) that people have died from the mesh that some of these are made of.  It mentioned the sling.  The RD article is online.  That is where I read the article.  I know several people who have the sling.  Some have had good luck, some have not been helped.

My DH has a pace maker--talk about medical devices.

I wonder if eight weeks is long after surgery to be examined by a urologist.

Heather - I had incontinence before WLS and losing weight took care of it - but I have got it back... much to my disappointment.. So I'm on Toviaz...  same dry eyes, nose, skin issue... but it works.

Jody, after reading about Toviaz, it sounds like it is time-released (once a day, do not cut or crush.)  After RNY, I was told not to take time-released.  What do you think, is Toviaz time-released?

I tried Vericare.  It is time-released.  It did not work for me.  I was changed to Ditropan--it is not working either.

Just wondering about Toviaz?

I cut my Toviaz in half.  It may be time released but it works for me.

My drug plans says it is a time-released and should not be cut.  You are lucky that it works for you.  It is rather expensive even through my drug plan.  They quoted me $125 for 8mg for 90 day prescription. But since it will be my first prescription of the year, I will have to pay a $125 deductible making it cost $250. If you cut in half, that improves the price a lot.  My problem is really more than a leak.  Mine runs down my legs.  I have no control.  Something must have happened during the surgery.  I did not have this problem before.

I really do not know where to turn.  It has been eight weeks hence my hysterectomy.  Really I should wait a few more weeks to see a urologist.  I know my body needs to heal.  Being patient is not easy

Thanks for your help.
