This is a link to the original recipe:  5daypouchtest.com/recipes/days1_2a.html#pumpkin

This is what I did differently:  I got rid of the sour cream and all but 1 tablespoon of the heavy cream (if you omit this you can subtract 5 cals & 0.5gr Fat)  I wont add this next time as it adds nothing to the soup.  I replaced these with 2 cups of Chobani FF Vanilla greek yogurt.  I also NEVER use pork sausage as it is double the calories and 10x the fat!  I replaced it with my staple chicken breakfast sausage.  I used granulated garlic instead of "real" cuz it's what I had.  I also chose baby bellas for my mushroom (they are my fav).  I also have 1 more Cup of broth because it was cheaper to by it in that size....LOL  That is why I omitted the water.

This is a delicious soup and I will never try the original recipe simply cuz I know it WILL taste better.....LOL  I'm proud I was able to come with a recipe that is has 2/3 less calories almost NO fat and maintained the carb and protein at the same level (OK they are a touch higher) AND IT TASTES GOOD!

Looks like a great change to the recipe. This makes it easy to make a DS version with higher fat. Is the protein powder plain or is it vanilla or what?  Could I use plain Greek yogurt and vanilla-cinnamon protein powder?

Thanks,

Gina,

I used Vanilla for both but you could use plain too......FYI i only used the yogurt and protien powder to make the soup creamier and hoped to increase the protein content.  In fact until i added the protein powder my version only had 14 gr of protein......so it might be over kill to add these if you are OK with using heavy cream and sour cream.

Still sounds great and I like the lower fat.  I only buy plain yogart so I guess I could use that and my vanilla protein.

Hi Heather!

I want to start he 5-day pouch test today - but I haven't done ANY planning... and BF's cooking bacon... UGH!

I need to go onto the site and see what I need to do/get.  Honestly, I'm just plain tired of eating and think 5 days of protein shakes sounds like a good idea!!!  (sure I say that NOW! - LOL)

Thanks for the pumpkin recipe... I may need to give this a try.

LOL Jody!  I agree I am sick of eating too!  Just make sure you have some protein to make shakes for today and sit down and make a list of things you want for the next 4 days.  I went to the store last night......I made this soup......tomorrow will be the parmesan tuna patties, tues will be cajun shrimp, and for wednesday i bought ham and swiss stuffed chicken breasts from Target!  I also bought some pudding and jello for my in between times.

I don't think it was too dry.......I tasted it after I had mixed the mushrooms and onions in....so it may have been moist from that..(good mix for omletes!)........I would say it isn't any drier than a turkey sausage. You could give it a try ffirst and if it's too dry mix it up for a toss in......for soup....omletes....in a pasta sauce....(I use spagetti squash for pasta).....lots of different uses....
