I am on a mission to start the new year with a bang!  I have several healthy resolutions.  I will be starting my 2011 journey with the 5DPT.  Does anyone want to join me for a great decarbing session?

Get your suits on cause we are gonna blow them outta the water!

I'll be making a trip to the vitamin shoope for some tastey protien shakes and the grocery store for soup and food today!.......LOL

well Im CURIOUS   how  this  goes for  U and the rest of the low carbers /pouch  'testers "   long term  ( i just call it radical dieting  myself )

I remember  when my grandmother  went on a diet  which consisted  of  oranges one day , grapefuit the next , cottage cheese the next , apple the next .    I suppose that was a " stomach test "  , lol.

Please  forgive me for being cynical , but  the field im in .. Ive seen  every diet  known to mankind .... and worked with grrls  who ran to drink the water the moment the plane touched down in Mexico city so we could GET  Montezuma's revenge hoping to  lose a few more lbs ....

I was 11 years old when my first modeling agency put me on a 300  calorie a day diet  ....  and permanently  stopped my  growth in its tracks.   Less than a year later someone  there taught me how to BARF  up everything i ate  .....  leading  me  down a treacherous slope of malnutrition ,  weight gain  ,  misery and  heart issues .

so yes , I dont trust diets .  I think WLS  is supposed to FREE  us from dieting ideally  ....  personally  I found  Overeaters anonymous to really help detangle with my  compulsive overeating/food addiction issues  from what my body wants and needs .

Good luck !

Well Ava I love food!  I love all kinds of food!  I have been putting mostly carbs in my system lately and want a little bit of a kick start to get back into the right mind set.  I've read your posts about your diet choice and quite honestly that isn't for me!   Personally I think your diet is pretty RADICAL!  But we each have our own perception of what is healthy.  For me that is being able to enjoy everything in moderation and if that means I have to go back to basics one and half years post-op then that is what I'm going to do.  I see absolutely no harm in doing the same thing to my body I did over the first 6 months post op for 5 days of my life.

BTW .... I had all my psych evals and was not diagnosed with any eating disorders.  ANYWAY.....I don't see I need to go to OA to deal with eating issues I DONT have.

My story is not like many who are obese.  I put on 60 lbs after having the Depo shot that was not related to eating, I went on a medically supervised diet AND worked out daily and was still putting weight on!!  At some point I just said f' it I'm just gonna eat what I want to eat since nothing I do is helping anyway.   With the poor choices of fried foods and HIGH calorie options I put on another 20.  It was 2 1//2 years before I stabalized and was able to take any of the weight off.  I made healthy choices and lost weight but I was poor and those healthy choices were only financially viable for a short time and I would have to resort to the "cheap" food which was high in fat and cals and I would put my weight back on.

I had WLS to change my eating habits and choices which I have done.  I have maintained a HEALTHY weight for several months and am not doing the 5DPT because I want to lose more weight or "diet"  I just want to give myself a kick in the booty to remind myself what I signed on too....and to stop with the carby snacks and actually eat meals again......I respect your opinion on this issue but we will have to agree to disagree.......LOL

OOH first of all I want to apologize for opening my big mouth and putting a huge FOOT in it .... I didnt mean to sound offensive and tactless and unsupportive and critical.... . My husband often tells me I don't know how to talk with people .... he sells a TON of paper products so obviously he DOES ..... and I need his constructive criticism and improvement in that area . Sorry sorry sorry Sweetie .

What I MEANT and said wrong is that I personally am overjoyed to have a finally found a way not to diet that seems to contain my lifelong expanding body .

And please believe me ..my body wants to expand just as much as anybody's in here .... i have SO many empty fatcells from being a very obese child .... from inherited diabetes / estrogen overload and metabolic disorder .

There ARE things hormonally wacky in my body that used to make me feel that every one ELSE in the world could eat ...but if I did ... I would WEAR the evidence the very next day . I simply could NOT burn it off .

So for me its been an almost miraculous path finding a way I could actually EAT healthily and ENJOY normal food sometimes ..... along with my own home cooked " special " extra " healthy " fat free sugar free ( but delicious fresh gourmet and PLENTY ) food most of the time ..... keep it DOWN ( i also was a bulimic .. not that it helped MUCH weight wise ;( but maybe i would have been 500 lbs without it ) ....and still see the same ( low ) number on the scale every morning .

THAT part I STILL can't believe often !!!!!!!

The OTHER part I can't believe is my energy level ( through the ROOF ) ..my willingness to take on , do and FINISH hard work.... so my body's ability to heal and to remain flexible and supple ( and beautiful ) under stress ...

THIS is a BIG ( and very pleasant ) SURPRISE

By the way Im not alone in my suspicion about the incorrect emphasis on " Nutrients " , processed foods being bad for you and wrongly taking away all the joy in food ..... there's a book on the bestseller list that echoes many of the things I've been saying for years ....

IN Defense of Food - An Eater;s manifesto by Michael Pollan - author of the Omnivore's Dilemma ( another great book BTW )

It begins with the sentence " Eat food . Not too much . Mostly plants . That ,more or less is the short answer to the incredibly complicated and confusing question of what we humans should eat i n order to be maximally healthy .... "

If U go a little further with this thinking ...no all calories are NOT created equal .... so if U eat the RIGHT fibrous and fresh calories U shouldnt have any issues with weight gain . Well I DO ,, and I have found that I DONT ... gain .. that is . That is a HUGE gift .

And I can eat carbs .... for what thats worth ... I eat them every single day . If i wanted to drop that last twenty lbs I would probably cut them out temporarily and thats it - still no hunger and three meals a day plus healthy snax ....

thank God for this wonderful surgery that makes all this possible ...

PS the OTHER thing that's really surprised me is that I can drink alcohol almost every day and still successfully maintain my weight .... now that makes me truly happy because I really BELIEVE in a glass of red wine with dinner .... and I dont wantto be a Puritan either lol .

BTW I am just so OVERJOYED and SURPRISED to have finally found something that WORKS after a million years of trying EVERYTHING and failing .... I rush to share it with my friends..., I definitely don't mean to sound preachy or critical of what they are already doing .... Im just trying to HELP and save them heartache and disappointment ....

HELP what is a  5dpt? As many of you know I do pretty good all month until PM****s then the gloves are off and the CARBS are on. It is about that time again. If this will keep me from carbing up I'm in. I just can't run any marathons just yet. Still just 2 weeks post op from hernia surgery. .. proud you are taking that carb monster by the horns!
Nothing tastes as good as this feels!

Way to go sunshine!! I had uncertainty about it as well....like Ava said...another diet...but I have to say that I love the 5DPT and do not see it as a diet but rather a RESET button for WLS'ers. It is a way to re-establish our relationship with our wonderful tool. I cannot believe the tight feeling again after the 5DPT. My caloric intake has decreased my priorities have shifted to high protein only and my body and gut feel overall GREAT!!!

I would do it again with you but I feel like I am in a great place right now. I will cheer cheer cheer you on sistah!!!

You got this in the bag baby!!
