I am 9 days post op of my RNY. I've only lost about 6 lbs. and I'm wondering if this is normal?!? Maybe I just expected a bigger number. How much did you lose you first week? Thanks! Melissa

Hi,

I lost a lb a day the first week, but I understand that some even gain!!  I wouldn't worry if I were you.  Just keep doing what you are suppose to do and the wt. WILL come off....  Your WL will probably slow down and your body will get into a tempo of loosing, you'll just have to wait and see how it goes.  After the first week my wt. loss slowed to about 2-3 lbs a week. Good luck, and DON'T stress about it!!

Hey there!  Did you weigh when you came home from the hospital?  That could impact the numbers a bit.  I wouldn't worry too much.  I have been a bit slow too.  Also, with the holidays, snow, and cold weather, it's a bit harder to move/walk as much.  I had to get out and go to the mall to get some exercise.  It'll be ok.

Thanks, ladies! I guess, too, I need to remember that most lightweights are not going to lose as fast as someone much heavier. I need to get my expectations in check! lol Today is the first day that I've actually had a little bit of energy so I've already been up moving this morning doing some step aerobics. I've GOT to find a way to start getting in ALL of my water. I'm averaging probably half what I should be. I guess all the changes are just alot to get used to.
Thanks again for your support!

I actually gained, water weight from the surgery.
This journey is different for everyone, so try not to get too hung up on the scale. Make sure you are taking your measurements and checking on how your clothes fit.
Congrats and welcome to the losers bench babee!
Hope you are feeling well.

You are doing great!  You may have put some weight on from all the fluids they give you in the hospital too!  I gained 4lbs and I've seen others put on up to 30!  It'll come  off in no time!  As far as your fluid intake goes I had a little kitchen timer I took with me everywhere for the first month.  I would set it to go off every 5 minutes and would take a drink 1oz.  It's nearly impossible to get ALL your water in the first couple of weeks so just get in what you are able.  Using the timer will make sure you are taking in everything you are physically capable of!  Welcome to the losing team!

Congrats on your WLS!!!   Everyone loses at a different rate but 6 lbs. sound Awesome to me!!!   I know it's hard not to compare with others but it's a lot better if you don't.  Once you start getting more of your liquids and Protein in you should notice a bigger difference on the scale.

Using a timer is a good idea.  Just keep a glass of something with you all of the time and just keep sipping and sipping.

Welcome to this side of your journey.  I actually gained weight from the fluids in hospital.  It took me a couple of weeks to totally get rid that weight and then I was down 16lbs.
I won't tell you not to worry or compare because you will anyway, teehee.  Just come here and get some reassurance.
Happy New Year!
