Soo.. how do you deal with...

(This is for anyone who wants to answers, not just sleevers!)

So, I'm on the cusp of being able to add cream soups to my diet (HALLELUJAH!) as well as yogurt. I'm kind of nervous about it, as my protein shakes are starting to make me queasy. I make them with water now, and I'm not sure if the ick is psychological, because I feel like if I look at another freaking chocolate drink again I will DIE :) or if it's something in the drink that's not agreeing. I haven't thrown up at all, and it's not really nausea. Just like.. "Oh god, I don't know if I can choke that down again!" and then feeling kind of.. I don't know how to describe it. It's not nausea. Anyway, I am SO SICK of sweets and fruity crap. I have some creamy tomato soup in the fridge and my brain WANTS IT, but I am worried I will puke or something.

So, tell me.. How was it for you when you moved up a stage? How did you deal with the nerves if you had them? How did you know if something was a no-go (other than hurling)?

I appreciate any and all advice and/or experiences!

I'll just go back to the fridge to eye that soup...

Give the tomato soup a try. Maybe you've had enough sweet and just need a different flavor. You could also try some egg drop soup and see how that sits. How are your fluids going? 64oz or more?

Yep! I get at least 64oz every day since I came home. :) You know, I've never tried egg drop soup. Maybe I'll see if I can rustle some up on Friday (first day of the next stage) if the tomato doesn't go well. Thanks, Gina!

I remember having tomato soup......didn't go well!!  I got A LOT of reflux with it!  My dad said it was probably to acidic for me.  I don't remember doing many soups.  I remember making a SF Carnation Instant Breakfast (with milk)......wow, that didn't sit well!  But I did eat cheese without much problem.  Maybe you can try the cheddar cheese soup if you're looking for an alternative also.  Yogurt sits and sat fine with me.

My problems weren't nausea or vomiting.  When I had problems (like the Carnation)...I got terrible stomach cramps, bloating and loose stools!  But mostly cramps & bloating!!!  Still get them if I drink too much milk.  I think mine was mostly related to the lactose intolerance.    I'm slightly intolerant since surgery.  Its very upsetting to me!!  I was someone that could drink a gallon of milk a day (pre op).  Now I feel the effects if I drink more than 8-10oz!

Good luck with your next step!!  I wasn't afraid (still not) to try new things.  I figured there is only one way to find out how my body is going to react to it!!  I'm just selective when I do it.  I won't try much new if I'm not going to be home (with in a couple of hours).

There are never any problems, only solutions.  quoted by a dear and special friend!!!

Jackie,

Thanks so much for your response! I also have a cheese soup to try as well. Believe me, I stocked up on everything that I could eat in the next stage that also looked good. lol I have cream of broccoli, creamy butternut squash, and something I can't remember.

I really hope I'm not horribly lactose-intolerant. I LOVE cheese and milk, too, and pretty much everything they say you can eat in stage 2 is milk-based.

Oh, and thank you for mentioning that it's a good idea to be close to home or at home when trying new things. I didn't think of that and I would not want to have an accident when out and about.

I feel like I will be the same way. Have you tried chicken or vegatable broth with unflavored protein yet? I bought some broth but was unable to find an unflavored protein in the store before I had my surgery (yesterday! :D).

We have a Whole Foods-like store in Phoenix called Sprouts and they had the most amazing looking soups there, low fat mostly liquid but creamy, I resisted buying because I knew I'd want them!

I DO like sweets and chocolate but I know when I have too much of one thing I crave another, sometimes you just need something savory.

I didn't buy any unflavored (DOH!) before surgery, and with the holidays, it's taking its sweet time arriving. I have had broths, but it's just not cutting it anymore. The majority of my intake is chocolate and/or fruit and it's just... too much now. I need something else that isn't chicken or beef!

I am going to add my unflavored to everything I think.

Sleeved yesterday! How are you feeling??

Haha my old roommate had her gall bladder removed and basically lived off broth, she said know even the sight of broth now makes her quesy, lol.

I'm actually feeling pretty great, the drain hurts the most, that and the tube stuck in my spine for pain meds. But I feel a lot better than I thought I would. :)
