Hello all my LW friends... As you know my surgery is in 2 days(Thursday). I got an urgent call from my Dr. today that my liver enzymes were very high. He said that Fatty Liver is common with overweight people but my enzymes went above and beyond that. Some causes could be hepatitis, tumors, NASH, cancer, advanced fatty liver, etc...They rushed me for more blood work today but may not come back in time so surgery Thursday is probably going to be cancelled. We won't know more until tomorrow. Has anyone had very high liver enzymes and it was fatty liver?? Pretty concerned so any info would be so appreciated! Thanks guys...

I had extremely high liver enzymes and did not know until my husband pulled my lab work. My doc was not worried but I did notice with this last set of lab work it was still high. I am going to ask about it at my next appt. Good Luck.

Hey Stacey, Yes...for sure ask about it. Mine have been high for 3 years now but no tests were ever ordered. I may have a biopsy with Dr. Davis. I just have to wait until tomorrow. I'm hoping and praying this blood work gives them more answers...

Oh no!  You've really had to go through it with this, haven't you???

I say find a way to push those labs.  If anyone can, it's you!  (I have a whole other level of respect for you after the insurance coup.)

I hope it's nothing.  I really do!

But wouldn't surgery help?  Shouldn't someone take a look at that liver, anyway?

Thanks girl...you always make me smile! Dr. Davis is rushing everything. It's just that some of the tests they've ordered takes time to show what it is. Surgery will help if it's fatty liver but if it's something else, I cannot have the surgery...We are just waiting on those reports and praying for good news.

I had high liver enzymes when my gall bladder was removed in 1992. After a year they were still high and my doctor began a quest for a diagnosis. It took several years, but I was diagnosed with primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC). It's a rare autoimmune disease mostly in women. It can be controlled with medication. There is an antibody test and/or liver biopsy that is used to diagnose it. My gastroenterologist was very supportive of WLS.

You are in good hands, but I know you want to be sure of what is going on. I ended up with the sleeve, since it permits better access to the liver, if I have problems down the line. I no longer fear PBC, just live with it. I know an 87 year old women still going strong with PBC for over 30 years.

Of course, there are so many possibilities, I'm sharing my experience, not making a diagnosis.

You are in my thoughts and I will swing lizards that you will find out what's going on and get to your surgery, as soon as possible.

I didn't have any issues with liver enzymes, but I wanted to offer my support anyway. Best wishes. I hope it's nothing serious and it gets figured out quickly!
