Constipation/rny/hysterectomy/bladder problems

I will try to make this brief.  I had RNY 3/2005.  I have had bathroom problems ever since.  I have taken fiber/stool softeners/laxatives.  Then I had a hysterectomy 11/2010.  My bladder is a mess.  I can not stop urinating.  My doctor is giving me oxybutynin to help with urinating problem.  Really it is not helping, but I am to increase if one tablet does not help.  BUT I am so constipated.  I know it is an old subject, but I need help.  I have taken fiber and stool softeners.  After a few days, I take laxatives and go, but I can not live like this.

I'm sorry things are a mess, Ruby. I wish I knew what to tell you. I had a bladder lift when they did my hysti back in Oct and things are back to normal now. Did they not do a lift or bladder sling with the hysti?

I had a prolapse uterus (thing was hanging out of vagina,) so they removed and put bladder back where it should be.  The tube from the bladder probably had a kink in it before keeping me from having leakage before. The kink has been removed because of putting bladder back in place.  Now the tube allows the urine to run freely.  All this is guess work on doctors part.  I am told there is nothing they can do to repair, but they will examine me in a couple of months after I have had time to heal.

I also had an anteria vaginal repair.  It is a new procedure that makes the vagina smaller and holds bladder back in place.  It would hold the uterus if it were still there. They removed mine--not sure why, but it had a fibrous and polyp so the lab said after the fact. The surgery was done at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.  These doctors should know what they are doing, but who knows.

I have got to get some help.  Between leaking bladder and constipation, I am about crazy.  The doctor's office has a PA calling me every few days trying to help, but all she can say is fiber, stool softeners, etc.  Nothing helps.  I am too young to live with pads in my pants and laxatives the rest of my life.

I am going to try the next posters plan.

The important thing is to be patient and consistent. It took a few weeks for things to start running right. I would give up and take a laxative and stop the Miralax and I had the same problems. Give it at least a week and don't give up if you can help it.
Also, it is very important that you have enough to drink. I drink about a gallon a day between my decaf coffee and teas and my sugar free drink mix.

Thanks for the words.  I will try to stick with the Miralax and drink water.  You realize the more I drink, the more I leak.  lol

I have had bad problems with constipation and even impaction. The ****tail that I am taking is working great. I take one stool softener in the morning and one in the evening. I take 2 teaspoons of Benefiber a day and one dose of Miralax every other day. My doctor said I could take it daily but I have found it makes my stool too soft if I take it every day. For the last week I have been regular, which is a minor miracle for me.
You might have to play around with it to see what works for you. I also try to eat a salad every day and chili a few times a week for more fiber.

My mother has similar issues with your problems, and once I got her on Miralax once daily, she is quite regular. She was hoping once the constipation went away there would be less pressure on her bladder, but still has leakage issues. I hope you're able to figure out what works for you soon.
