Good Morning. When is a diet not a diet?

When it works and becomes a way of life!!    Diets don't work about 98% of the time...just sayin'.  So, the holidays are different than your normal way of life...enjoy them.

Your "words of wisdom" this morning?

I like that perspective, Gina -  it has a calming effect!  As a newbie, sometimes I have a "do or die" approach.  So thanks for reminding me to step back and relax... and enjoy life!

My words of wisdom?  Not really mine, they come from my Weigh****chers days -  Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!

A woman after my own heart ....

Thanks Gina ....  I so agree  ..but  of course i enjoy  life with my heart in my mouth waiting for the prison of fat and ill -health to re- appear .

Its not all  ( or even mainly ) food enjoyment ....   but i do find the more I participate in life  the  less control I have over  when and what exactly Ill be eating  ....  and  surprising temptations do get placed before me ....

I  feel this way about it  ...if i dont taste .. im seting myself up for a feeling of deprivation  and  a mini- binge later where i BUY the item and have it at home  .   It becomes an ISSUE  .

So Id rather be  like a normal person .... fall all over the item , sniff it , lick it ,nibble at it , comment on it ...and  in the end FORGET it  .

Getting spanked  repeatedly by my  pouch gas given me  a healthy aversion to sugary  desserts  so  I really  don't have tp worry about eating a whole piece anymore much less taking  home the ITEM ....  ( OHH  I was BAAD  before surgery .... I wasnt  Big for NO reason Grrrls ....)

But buffets are   still  an issue ...   and im proud to say Ive largely stayed away  when i had a choice ....

Gina --  I like your words of wisdom. Sometimes it's hard to stay calm about food. :)

My words of wisdom may not apply to everyone, but it REALLY applies to me. I am a little tired of some people seeing me and saying stuff like, "You look great. You've really changed your life."

My words of wisdom:
I have not changed my life -- I have changed my weight.

Sure, along with the weight loss, I've began running. But, I have always exercised. I have the same job. I have the same family. I am the same person. Just smaller. Nuff said.

That wouldn't work for me because I really did change my life a lot.

I know once someone said "you've really changed your life 180 degrees" and I was offended because I didn't think my former life was that bad and that's something you normally say to a recovering drug addict or something. But when I started listing all the things that were different now, I do think I've changed my life at least 100 degrees. So I had to back down on that one. LOL

I freaked out about Thanksgiving, I watched it for two of the get togethers, and went nuts at the third. I was up a couple of pounds, but went right back to normal eating and was back down before the next weekend. I'm not having a heart attack about Christmas. I'll be fine. It's a special occasion, it's fun to be around family, and there will be cool food that is not around the rest of the year. I'm going to enjoy it. I'm sure I'll be up a couple of pounds on Monday, but by next weekend, they'll be gone.

Welll.. I guess I do still look at "dieting" when I put on a few lbs... but I know its just "getting back to basics"....

I swore the holdiays weren't going to "do me in".  Well, I've let the eating get out of control.  Luckily my scale keeps me accountable and I'm getting back in control.  I know once I "decarb" my pouch will keep me in line.

Words of wisdom?  stay accountable to yourself... enjoy yourself, and don't beat yourself up too badly if you have a few things you shouldn't.

Yup!

I think it's not about whether or not we'll stumble.  We know we will.  It's all about how quickly we recognize that we've stumbled, and then we get back up.

I used to stumble, ignore it, and lay flat on the ground as if it were normal to live there.  It's normal to keep moving, and that's what my tool has helped me to do.

Does that make sense?

Love this thread. As a newbie and chronic "dieter" in my past life, I recognize how easily I would beat myself up over being human. I have eaten a few things (In moderation) I wouldn't have even conceived of before these Holidays rolled in! It appears I am NOT a dumper, but I don't see the point in testing that assumption either. I did eat a cookie, enjoyed it and felt satisfied. btw, in the past, ONE was never enough. I could easily pack away 1/2 dozen!

I hope to continue making wise and healthy food choices, and the occasional treat will be just that. A treat. I hope for myself, that the word "diet" means HEALTHY EATING. I am really going to work on this. Thanks Gina!

Oops, My words of wisdom would be:

To remember AND apply the The basic "rules" in everyday life (Protein first), so when there is an occasion to "celebrate" like Holidays, weddings, parties etc. You have set in place those good habits. A treat here and there is your "Get out of jail free" card.
