Just another annoying Vitamin Question
OK, so I had my 2 month follow up today (Hooray!) and things are well. I am down 47 lbs from my highest and 30 since surgery!! So I am very happy and that is on the Dr scale (a bit more here at home naked, but hey, I'll take it!
Anyway I am on a lot of pills/vitamins here and they seem to think I can take them all together (the NP) but that's not what I have heard here, so I am just looking for a bit of insight. I am on the following:
(2 each day) Bariatric Advantage Complete Multi Vits (Chewable)
(4 each day) Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate Chews(250 mg each for total 1000 mg)
(1 each day) Bariatric Advantage Sublingual B12 with folic acid (1000 mcg B12 and 200mcg Folic acid)
(1 each day) Aciphex (20 mg but only for 1 more month)
(1 per week) Vitamin D (50,000 Unt capsules)
So, I have heard take the multis and teh iron at least 2 hours apart which I am trying to do, but can't always do it well, so I am working at that. But what about everything else. Do you take them together, seperate, etc???
I need a pill box and full time RN on staff here at my house!!
Thanks in advance!!

The only thing I keep separate is iron from everything else. Iron with vitamin C only. The other vites and minerals are ok together. Calcium can be a strong one and eat up some receptors that your multi might need. If you want to separate one more thing, you could separate your calcium but that's up to you and how your labs look.

Thanks Gina! then she was right as I just checked my multi and it doesn't have any Iron in it at all! I was supposed to go to the lab before the appt, but I forgot to go! ( I know VERY bad) so I am going this week and she said they would call me if I need to add anything else to the regime. I will still keep the multi and calcium seperate and then take everything else in the middle of the day.
Any idea if the Vit D is an issue? She said the capsule should be fine, but I thought I've seen here that is not a good one?
I appreciate all of your help!!!

If the D3 is dry, not oil, it's ok. If the capsule looks like a little squishy football, it's oil based and you won't absorb it. If the D is D2 and not D3, you won't get anything out of it unless you're VSG or band. RNY and DSrs can't convert D2 to D3 because our duodenums are bypassed and that's where D2 is converted to D3. We have to take D in the D3 form and dry not oil. Get a copy of your labs sent to you, don't just depend on them to tell you what to do. You can put your labs on a spreadsheet and see if you're trending down and make adjustments.

Thanks Linda!! OK, you seem to have a really good regime. I am going to buy a pill box to keep it straight and easier and I needed to figure out how many boxes a day I need (looks like about 6) as I think it makes sense.
You take your D3 every day? Can I ask how much? I am taking (probably the wrong form) but the 50,000 once a week.
Thanks again! I love you guys on this board!!

I was a little low before surgery and I take 2,000 IU every day so that is actually less than your 50,000 once a week. Mine is the dry. I get my drug store to order it for me.
I'm not good at taking something once a week or every other day. I do better taking the same thing every day!!
I actually put my calcium chews in a little snack zip lock bag for a day and then I know when they are gone I'm through!! I have to keep up with the time I took them because I can't remember it.

Well, I'm not good at ALL with the once a week, so I would be MUCH better with the once a day as well because then it is just routine. (I'm a bit type A (if none of you noticed yet)) so yes, routine and "control" on the situation works much better for me. I was definitely low prior to surgery as well (I always am when they look at my labs) so I'm sure daily wouldn't hurt me, but I will run it by my PCP/surgeon before I change anything....
Thanks again!!
