5 day pouch test?? Anyone want to share??

I need to detox from the carbs these past few weeks. I have pushed the boundaries and I am not liking the way I feel. I feel puffy and irritable.

I am wondering if I should do the 5 day pouch test or if I should just eliminate the carbs completely. Any thoughts or suggestions?

 Hi Diana,

Can you limit your carbs without going to liquids?  I was eating more carbs last weekend and this week I just pulled it back to protein, a little veggies and a little fruit.  I used fruit the first day or two while the majority of the carbs left.  It's amazing how quickly the protein becomes "enough".

I don't think I could do the pouch test this week because it would feel like "diet mentality" to me.  I'm focusing on protein 1st at all of the holiday lunches and dinners this week.  UGH, I'll be happy when it's all over and the temptations are gone.

Leelee, I thought of the same thing. I thought maybe of just drinking protein drinks and focusing on my meals with protein first...no processed carbs period.

BUT if it is best to do the liquids...then I am prepared to do so. I just need to get back on track.

Diana, do whatever works best for you.  I would take it one day at a time.  Do what feels right to help you stay closest to where you want to be for the day.  A few days of liquids couldn't possibly hurt!

I would love to do this, but I just don't have the confidence until after Christmas. Let me know when you are starting it. I may jump in.

Hey Val ~ I am sipping on coffee this morning making the critical decision. I took my vits and I think I am going to just do it. I will do the 5 DPT and continue to decarb throughout the holiday. If I do it now, then by Christmas, I will be able to have my regular planned meals. I was able to do this preop for 2 weeks...I can do this for 2 days for sure :)

You can jump in any time any method you want...we are in this together!! :)

I know there are a lot of folks who do it and it is really helpful for them, but for me, it just is like the old pendulum of binging/restricting that used to be part of my reward/consequence system.  I also promised myself on my pre and post op dieting that I wouldnt EVER do that again unless it was medically necessary.

Part of my whole journey has been to move away from things that smack *to me and my situation* of disordered eating.  Again - its not for some folks, but for me?  Yea, defnitely.

So, I just go back to pushing protein and crank back my carbs.  I will always know the first 3 days will have TrixyBich (that voice in my head that used to be my protector, you know her?  :} ) will try and convince me that "just a little, just this once, its the holidays, its *insert excuse here*, depending on my indulgence, but then after that its not a big deal.  After the pendulum swings, I figure best to spend my energy on getting to back to the middle and moderation, instead of swinging wildly from restrict to binge and back again, cuz that is what happens with me.

Good luck!!

Hi there! I hear ya on the moving away from things that trigger disordered eating. I have been battling a lot of stress over this year and I have become more aware of exactly what triggers my snack attacks and such. The rest is the mentality of 'eh, just this time...nibble nibble'......so, I need to align my head with my body again.

I thought about just pushing protein but you know, I get 2/3's of my protein from my shakes so I might as well go full throttle and do the full liquids. It wouldn't hurt me a bit I don't think.  This will give me the opportunity to align my head back up with my body and eating plan. :)

Diana,
I am not going to do the pouch test but I am definately with you this week.
I am eliminating all carbs, fruits and veggies.
Upping all my protein and making sure I measure and weigh. I have to get out of this stall and start moving again.
I may not do the full liquid but I am pushing protein this week, right there with you! Good Luck!
