Hey guys, I've been out of pocket for a few days. I did go and get my pre-op testing all finished on Wednesday. Then yesterday I get a call that my Dr. now wants an abdominal ultrasound?? What could that be for?? I have no clue. Anyone, I have a question for you all. I started my 2 week all protein liquid diet and I've already cheated! I feel horrible and like I have no control. This has been hard and it's only day 3. My question to any of you is, did any of you cheat on your liquid diet? Could this totally change the outcome of my surgery?? I know I did wrong but geez I'm a food ADDICT! Let me know your thoughts but please don't fuss because I'm punishing myself enough!!

You will never get scolded here...I have no idea what your deal is...how much they want you to lose
or how big your liver is or whatever....the abdominal ultrasound may be to take a look at your liver or just  your abdominal cavity to see about going in there......we are all food addicts....we all slip up now and then...just go back to liquid and do the best you can...they want your liver to soften up for surgery because they have to move it over when they do your stomach.... I am just offering support...some of the others may know more about this ultrasound thing....just don't cheat before your ultrasound or they'll see it...LOL...SEAVIEW

Thanks for the input. And I know I wouldn't get scolded here! This is my family and I'm very thankful for all of you. I am suppose to be on my liquid diet for 2 weeks and yes it is to shrink my liver which my doctor told me was not very big anyway. Maybe that is why they want the ultrasound...I don't know. I didn't think about the eating thing. I better make it for the end of next week!LOL I am back on it now. I don't care for these protein drinks though. It is Bariatric Advantage. If anyone knows of another protein drink they like, please let me know!

I wasn't ultrasounded so I don't know.
But I do know the first couple of days with all liquids are the hardest.  It gets better after day 3-4.  In the end, I was never hungry, just bored.  I could have one small food meal a day and 5 optifast shakes.  That one meal is what saved me.  I'm sure you didn't cheat more than that and since some diets allow that, I know it won't interrupt surgery.
Let us know about the ultrasound.  Not long now and you will be past this part and on to the rest of your life.

I had an ultrasound of my gall bladder pre op.  My surgeon does that on everyone.

Yep, ultra sound of the gal bladder. Liquid diets for LWs is crazy any way. Don't worry about it. Low carb is fine.  Enjoy your holidays.

I had my GB removed 3 months before my VSG so I had several ultrasounds.  I didn't have to do a liquid diet.  I had a 1200 calorie diet plan that I had to follow until I got to my surgery goal weight.

We most likely all came to this place in the road because of food issues.  I think that telling people to drink protein for 2 weeks is a little insane unless they're also giving you a lot of good support for dealing with the food cravings that are bound to come up.  I was doing my 1200 calorie diet during the holidays last year and there were lots of days that I didn't follow the plan.   From what I've read, taken with a grain of salt, low carb will shrink your liver too.  That said, I'm not telling you to disobey your surgeon's recommendations, just to not beat yourself up about it.  I would be surprised if a surgeon actually expected you not to have a slip during the 2 weeks.

Be good to yourself, your body will respond.  :)

Hey honey! I bet like Gina said the US if for the galbladder.  I didn't have any pre-op diet when I had my surgery.

I can say yes, I cheat all the time......but it's very small bites and in moderation.  However I'm going on 4 years out.  I didn't cheat within the 1st year.  I stuck to basics.

Hang in girl....call me if you need me!

I personally did not cheat. But . . . we're human honey! That pre op diet is a BEATCH. It won't change the outcome of your surgery  . . . but just remember they do it to shrink your liver. The smaller your liver, the easier the surgery is for the surgeon . . . so .  . . try to stay on it.

I agree the US is probably routine to check your GB or liver.

Thanks guys...you helped ease my nerves so much! I've been racking my brain on the ultrasound thing so I feel better. I kept thinking...did they find something in my bloodwork? Could something else be wrong with me??LOL I let my head get the best of me! I am going to stick to the protein diet to the very best of my ability and I'm going to quit beating myself up. Good advice guys...as always! What would I do without my girls!
