This is weird!
I had my band taken out a month ago today. I have been losing weight because I have been so nauseus. I plan on having the RNY in March so my stomach can heal. Eating is so unpleasant and sugar and fat are intolerable now.
I went to my post-op today and my surgeon said he did some prep work for the RNY after he took my band out. I'm a little confused. I didn't ask for clarification because I was a bit shocked about what he said. I didn't know surgeons did this.
The band is gone but still having issues with reflux and nausea.

Sounds like he may have done the RNY while he was in there. Do you have some restriction too?Interesting for sure. Can you get a surgical report sent to you?

By prep work, is it possible he means he ordered some lab work and other tests that will be necessary for the RNY, while you were being worked up for the band removal?
I don't believe any surgeon would - or at least SHOULD - perform any type of surgery without the prior consent of the patient. If he did not disclose this to you before you had the surgey, I think - or I HOPE - it is very unlikely he did any actual "re-plumbing" in preparation for the RNY. He should only have performed the procedure you had previously given consent for - the band removal.
But you should definitely followup and get clarification of this -

Maybe just cutting out adhesions which will make it easier to do the RNY. That and repairing hernias took an extra 2 hours for my RNY. I'm sure if he did anything else, like the real deal, you will see it on the bill, VBG. I would get something for nauseu because one way or the other, you don't want to get dehydrated. I remember eating being unpleasant after my gall bladder removal and that was 20 yrs ago so maybe it just has to do with him messing with everything in there.

First of all I would stop and think about the conversation you and your surgeon had before you went under the knife. He is required to get a procedural consent signed by you after he discussed what his "plan" was, what complications you were at risk for as well as any possible modifications he may have to make during the band removal. If he did anything that was not discussed in complete detail with you he needed to explain what he did after you come out of surgery. Did you have anyone with you that maybe can remember any conversations you may have had post op with the surgeon while you were doped up on meds?? Maybe they can shine some light on the situation for you. As stated in a previous post he probably would have fixed any scarring while in there. He may have come across something he was unable to fix without doing some rerouting in order to ensure you were able to digest you food........I would definitely get clarification from your surgeon as to what prep work he did.

Yes, he did mention there was a lot of scaring. He told my boyfriend after the surgery that he removed some polyps from my stomach. He never made it back to talk to me personally and I was discharged the next day.
The only thing I can think of is that because I had the band for so long that I am just having a lot of time adjusting to my new stomach. He is very good at offering any medication that I need. The conversation was that he had prepared me for the RNY. He said I'm ready to do this. I made some preperations after I removed the band and I'm ready to move forward with the RNY. I was concerned about damage but he assured me that everything is fine.
I really feel good about him. I did my research and he has an excellent track record.
I asked him what will stop the nausea and reflux and he responded that the RNY will take care of those problems.
I don't think he did anything. I think I'm just having trouble adjusting.
I'll take to him more about it when I meet him again.

I'm sure you have a very competent surgeon! Sometimes they forget to talk to thier patients AFTER they are lucid and not on pain meds. That is where the confusion like this can happen. It sounds like you are comfortable with things now and he is offering you answers to your questions and that is great!
